@Dave_Eby The change to end individualized funding and replace it with hubs was supposed to address massive multi-year wait times for autism assessments. But, poor execution and communication seemed to doom the idea from the moment it was announced in October 2021.
Parents need certainty and true consultation before massive decisions like this are made. When will Minister Dean do what’s right, pause this change and truly talk to all those affected by this? #bcpoli
Glad I was able to contribute to this story. ALL families that have children with disabilities need to be equitably funded. But removing the funds children with autism use for individual care and try to spread it around will mean bad outcomes for all.
The province is facing backlash from some parents after announcing changes to its support system for children with autism and other developmental disabilities. But as @JanellaCBC reports, others hope the new model will finally help families who have fallen through the cracks.
This article encapsulates the fears parents like me & @Lanalyzethis have about the changes coming to #autism funding in BC with zero clarity from the Minister. Shouldn’t have announced without true consultation. #bcpoli
but instead the Minister is digging in on a bad decision. It’s like they’re doubling down because they don’t want to look bad. And my child and thousands of others in BC will pay the price for saving face. So frustrating.
The BC Gov is making some terrible changes to funding families of children with Autism. It will negatively impact my family, and thousands of others. Sign this petition: https://t.co/yumvhfnNiu
