By far the funniest moment in Homer’s Odyssey is when Circe says, “Shall we have sex?” and Odysseus says, “You just turned all my men into pigs. You have the GALL to think I would sleep with you? Of course I will. Absolutely. But don’t do any weird spells”
“The Odyssey” is not, strictly speaking, a children’s book. But @Moody decided to try reading it to his 3-year old son anyway. He reflects on how his toddler has come to appreciate the great yarn: https://t.co/wg5VP4IpfK
Obrigado, Sam Neill, por olhar pra uma paisagem vazia com tanta emoção que me fez acreditar, naquela sala escura de cinema em 1993, que dinossauros eram reais
Americans were once members of a proudly literate society, but today, reading has declined across age groups, gender, and education levels. For The Atlantic’s August issue, @rosehorowitch explores the reading collapse—and its effects on civilization: https://t.co/AWuYlYRts1
online seems divided between people who haven’t seen Nolan’s Odyssey and hate it, and people who actually saw Nolan’s Odyssey and liked it, it’s a rich debate
All the businesses and news outlets offering 25% off on their products and subscriptions for America’s 250th are really telling on themselves. True patriots offer 250% off (you pay me to take your product)!
School board members skew older, whiter, wealthier, and more educated than the U.S. adult population — half are 55+, 29% earn over $200K, and 52% hold graduate degrees. They're also disproportionately female and unlikely to identify as LGBTQ+. https://t.co/J8GBRjPiCS
Thanks for your critique, Janet. We actually tried a couple of episodes where House (Hugh Laurie) (please put the brackets in the right place) gets it right first time, but they were only 6 minutes long. NBC weren’t happy. Then we tried some where House never gets it right and the patient dies. The audience wasn’t happy.
One could apply your trenchant analysis to other art forms: JS Bach wrote 30 Goldberg variations on the same chord structure; Frida Kahlo painted 50 portraits of herself; Henry Moore, what??
The point is, or was, variations on a theme; if all you see is hospital, medical blah blah, then it wasn’t meant for you.
Nonetheless, I look forward to your first novel!
Breaking News from @TheAthletic: Polish qualifier Maja Chwalinska shocked Diana Shnaider of Russia, becoming the lowest-ranked player to reach the French Open final in at least 40 years. https://t.co/g4VPPWjPEA
