This ugly breadboard could become a $6,900 product.

The parts probably cost around $15–20: a tiny microcontroller, colour display, touch sensor and a few wires. Put the same circuit inside a polished case, sell it for $69, and 100 units becomes $6,900 in revenue.

The creator turned those parts into a desk buddy with animated eyes. Touching the sensor changes its expression, while other screens show the time, date and weather.

There is no new technology here. The screen is generic, the chip is cheap, and the first prototype still looks like something stolen from an electronics class.

But that is how real hardware products usually begin. First, you prove that the interaction feels interesting. Only then do you design the case, simplify the wiring and turn it into something people would actually place on their desk.

Nobody wants to buy a touch sensor connected to a display.

They might pay $69 for a tiny character that reacts to them, shows useful information and makes their desk feel slightly less dead.
