Could not have said it better. A lot of people who accuse @nntaleb of grandiosity and all-knowing pompousness have probably not read his writings over the years. As opposed to intellectual hubris (demonstrated above) the point is one of intellectual humility. The hard limits on human knowledge and certainty.

100%. Well said, and thank you for putting it bluntly. A few of my colleagues and I fought this in our professional society opposing the institutionalization and medicalization of euthanasia, euphemistically presented as medical assistance in dying. It is usually advocated for by well to do, liberal middle class folks, but it ends up being applied to the poor and marginalized, and those with tremendous psychosocial suffering.

Not quite true, Lord Bebo. The US constitution does not allow the prosecution of a defendant who is "not quite there" mentally just as you would not prosecute a defendant who is not there physically. A finding of incompetent/unfit to stand trial is not a get out of jail card. The defendant will be required to undergo treatment--sometimes even against their will-- until they get better. In the mean time there will be periodic evaluations to see if the defendant has been restored to competency. If competent, they will be prosecuted.
