It’s official! Khan Academy founder and CEO Sal Khan shall become the new steward of TED! Chris Anderson, curator of TED in his 25th year, makes the announcement from the TED Theater stage in New York City:
Trump cares about one thing, and one thing only.
Deals to make himself richer.
Make his family richer. Make his billionaire friends richer.
And he is succeeding. Big time.
The art of the deal indeed.
Based on the rumor mill, it sounds like the closed-model US AI company’s lobbying efforts were having some success persuading the US government to ban or restrict Deepseek. Now comes Qwen. Then MiMo. Open comes at you fast. What now?
@McFaul Certainly an end to Trump’s dreams of winning a Nobel Peace Prize. His envy of Obama will never end… Only four days ago, President Zelensky helped Trump imagine his portraits in a place of reverence alongside George Washington and Abraham Lincoln. Poof.
@lexfridman Please Revisit the first 39 minutes of the White House Pool video (already perhaps a record length at that point) and note the reasonably respectful yet direct tone exhibited by both Zelensky and Pres. Trump.
Note at 12 minutes, where they disagree over the fact Europe has contributed more in dollar terms than USA — they lean inward towards each other a couple of times, and then smile/laugh as if to acknowledge it as a difference that need not be settled in front of pool reporters at that venue. Resolute, yet amicable.
Only after Trump invites a final question, in the 40th minute, does JD Vance jump in with provocation. It would be worth examining why Vance sought to disrupt a calm conclusion of the gathering, as much as why Zelensky and Trump seemed to succumb to the bait.
Also, how it was you appear to assign disrespect where there was none exhibited by Zelensky, but rather the shouting of Trump and Vance made it appear so.
Very curious and uncharacteristic for you to yield to this fictitious narrative, and amplify it.
With respect that you’ve withdrawn it — yet perhaps worthwhile that all of us take a moment here.
For 39 minutes, Zelensky and Trump seemed to display with candor the challenges for the Ukraine and for a serious effort to mediate as a US president… there was credibility not demonstrated with the secrecy of the US-Russia-Saudi talks, that seemed to serve the prospect of a US-Ukraine deal, and further steps towards potential end of the conflict.
Yet, for those who detest that notion, Vance lit a verbal Molotov Cocktail.
I regret engaging in the political dumpster fire of the Trump-Zelenskyy meeting.
I simply want to do my small part in building bridges & pushing for long-lasting peace.
I'll try to focus on that through long-form nuanced conversation with people on all sides.
I love you all ❤️
Prior to JD’s deliberate provocation, for 30 minutes, Trump and Zelensky were engaged in meaningful and substantive discussions, even putting heads together, and ultimately laughing, around the 12 minute mark when they clearly disagreed over the fact Europe has put more in financial terms into Ukraine support that the United States. Somehow, it seemed to be too cordial for JD Vance. Note that he pounced the moment Trump offered ‘a last question’… Please consider more closely Vance’s motivations and the agenda (and NRx movement (also Dark Enlightenment) which seems to govern his mental map and impulsive rhetoric).
@elonmusk What I see is a tragedy: President Trump siding with a Russian dictator and alleged war criminal, Putin, and shouting at a democratically-elected leader of a country that Putin invaded. In the long twilight struggle for human freedom, I see Trump pushing America to switch sides.
