UPDATE - There will be no on the field Playoff Game Between area Champs Spain Park & Trussville. GDSR confirmed that while all area 6A coaches agreed to a playoff in this scenario prior to season start Trussville has reneged on that agreement and refuses to play. GDSR spoke with multiple coaches today—All expressed deeper concern the decision to back out of the game will have on players and teams going forward.

By invoking the obscure out area common opponent rule where they had 1 additional game finishing 5-2 to Spain Parks 4-2 ……

Now coaches will have to put more emphasis on out of area games (typically used for player development) and that ultimately hurts bench players who relied on out of area games for reps and opportunities to prove themselves in game situations.

One coach we spoke with said “What stops a coach now from cancelling out of area games if they hold an advantage?
It opens the door for schedule and playoff manipulation. Trussvilles decision definitely huts High School Athletes and Athletics. There is no other way to Say it!!”

AHSAA needs to come up with a tie breaker that puts players first. TRUSSVILLE you may have clinched the 1 seed on a technicality but you hurt High School Baseball in Alabama….SETTLE IT ON THE FIELD..
