⦿ We have had an unresolved census issue since the 2001 and 2011 censuses.

⦿ Independent scholars from universities in Bengaluru and IITs have studied the issue and said the abnormal population growth in Manipur cannot be explained through normal demographic factors.

⦿ These unresolved census issues must be judiciously addressed before proceeding with the new census.

⦿ The population growth of Manipur is far higher than in neighbouring Chin State in Burma. The last report suggested that there was a drastic decline in Chin State’s population, while in Manipur there was a drastic increase in population.

⦿ So, the people demand a judicious process to distinguish illegal immigrants and foreigners.

Some things are born out of crisis and become something beautiful.
iManipur started as an idea after the Manipur crisis when a group of incredibly talented young people who decided that rather than just grieve, they would preserve. Folk stories, culture, history, language - things that belong to all of us and must not be lost.
I played a very small part, helping edit some of the folk stories. Tiny, really. But today that idea became a book, and there was a launch in Imphal, and somehow I ended up giving a little speech about it from overseas.
I am not going to pretend I did much. But I am going to absolutely tom-tom the fact that I know these brilliant young minds who did.
