Yesenia Sanchez is at 50.12%, a figure above the threshold to win the election and avoid a runoff. There’s still many votes to be counted, but it’s over. Sanchez won. Late ballots will strongly favor her. I predict she’ll end up with more than 54% of the primary vote.
With more votes counted, Yesenia Sanchez now has pulled ahead to a majority of votes for Alameda County Sheriff! If this holds (late returns are usually younger Democrats voting by mail at the last minute), this election is done and Ahern's time in office is up!
Wow!! This could turn out to be a historic election for criminal justice reform in the Bay Area! We could have the first two Latina sheriffs in our region’s history. Yesenia Sanchez in Alameda County and Christina Corpus San Mateo County.
This is trending well! New slug of votes puts Yesenia Sanchez past the 50% mark and the possibility of avoiding a runoff. So proud that she chose us as her campaign consultant.

Breaking: as of Friday Yesenia Sanchez has just over 50% of votes in the Alameda County Sheriff's race.
If results hold, she will have pulled off a major upset, ousting Greg Ahern, who's been in office for 16 years.
Still lots of ballots to count.

UPDATE in the @ACSOSheriffs race shows incumbent Sheriff Ahern continues to trail challenger Yesenia Sanchez - a division commander at Santa Rita Jail. If Sanchez stays above 50% as ballots are still being processed, she'll become new sheriff https://t.co/IHHFN7QFeX
This is a big deal.
Incumbent Alameda Co. Sheriff Greg Ahern may be headed toward defeat. On Friday, Yesenia Sanchez's vote tally crossed the 50% threshold.
Still lots of ballots to process, but updates have been leaning in Sanchez's favor.

How many times do you think the #OathKeepers, the extremist group that helped organize the #Jan6 insurrection and that Alameda County Sheriff Greg Ahern invited to law enforcement trainings, will be referenced during the public #Jan6Hearings?
Sanchez nearly knocks Ahern out of Alameda County sheriff race; pair poised for runoff in November. Internal challenger positioned just short 50% overall, more than 10% better than boss in three-candidate primary https://t.co/aIpVlBkbvk
It is obvious by the combined anti-Ahern vote of 63.6% that Alameda County is demanding change. I am that change! We have a long road ahead, but thank you to all who have helped me get this far. @sanchez4sheriff
Heading to November in FIRST PLACE!
Thanks to all the #Warriors for reform who supported me; last night we made history and took first place over incumbent Greg Ahern. Our work is not done. We now head to November for a runoff.
