Notice @cremieuxrecueil, and every other anti-pit bull “it’s the breed” moron can’t make their arguments without comparing them to other breeds. If they actually, look at attacks relative to pit bull population, their whole argument falls apart.
Clayton and I don’t always agree on day-to-day partisan politics, but he’s 100% right here.
Everyone in Hollywood knows that, substantively, the Oscars’ diversity requirements accomplish nothing. We literally just had a ceremony where Hamnet, Sentimental Value, and Train Dreams all landed Best Picture nominations with all-white casts. If Paramount released The Godfather tomorrow with the exact same cast, it would still qualify for Best Picture.
So why have the requirements at all? That’s a perfectly fair question. But Nolan did not cast Lupita to appease the Academy. That claim is foolish, and it makes the people pushing it look like absolute idiots to anyone within shouting distance of the industry.
Lots of people telling me The Odyssey is a terrible film on the basis of not having seen it…
FWIW, I’ve now watched it twice, and it is by some way the best cinematic adaptation of a Greek myth I have ever seen.
It honours Homer while simultaneously making something new of him
@Suckdee26233503@PixelBuff grievances, my opinion is that Nolan truly is trying to honor The Odyssey but his primary focus is making a good film so any perceived slight is likely unintentional.
@Suckdee26233503@PixelBuff past. He’s turning a massive tale into a 3 hour movie & any filmmaker will tell you you have create at least some distance between yourself & the source material because you’ll never be able to 100% capture every aspect of it. Point being, while I do understand your…
@Suckdee26233503@PixelBuff possible. If you’re sincere, I apologize for being dismissive but I just don’t believe the vast majority of people who are simply viewing films in terms of how they can be used to score political points.
@Suckdee26233503@PixelBuff their heritage outside of their last name, but actual Greeks. The thing is, 90%+ ppl who are claiming to have so much respect for Greek culture & the works of Homer never gave it a thought before the cast of this film was revealed & they wanted to pile on as much fodder as...
@AssociationOfF2@mynerdyhome I’ll give you some credit; you might be the first person to not ask me how I’d feel if they made a movie about MLK with a white guy playing him, so you got that going for you.
@AssociationOfF2@mynerdyhome Nah, I just go after easy targets on X for entertainment. It used to be the TDS crowd, then the libertarians crying that we blew up an Islamic dictatorship, now it’s the anti-woke whining about representation and cultural appropriation. You people are very amusing.
@Suckdee26233503@PixelBuff offended. They’ve convinced themselves that they have power because of the failure of Snow White, Supergirl, etc. but all those happened to be shitty movies. They’re about to find out, with The Odyssey, most people don’t really care about the culture war nonsense.
@Suckdee26233503@PixelBuff No, the “anti-woke” crowd really are beginning to sound like the progressives to me. Every time a movie comes out that has some perceived leftist bent, or an actor says something stupid while promoting it, they start whining that their political sensibilities have been…
@AssociationOfF2@mynerdyhome cornerstone of western civilization!” 😢The funniest part is you are giving the left exactly what they want and don’t even realize. They’ve goaded you into obsessing over race and gender ideology & cultural gatekeeping to help ensure there’ll be no cultural cohesion. You’re…
@AssociationOfF2@mynerdyhome Yes, nothing says reactionary like saying you should actually watch a movie & judge it on its merits instead of sperging out over a trailer or cast interviews.
