California’s Refinery Reckoning: Mike Ariza on the National Catastrophe No One Sees Coming
California is about to shut down several of its last major oil refineries, and while politicians celebrate a “green victory,” the rest of America is about to pay a devastating price. As the nation’s largest refining hub collapses, nationwide fuel shortages, exploding gasoline and diesel prices, crippled supply chains for food, medicine, trucking, and aviation are inevitable.
This is no longer a California story — it is rapidly becoming a full-blown national energy and economic emergency that will raise the cost of living for every American family and threaten the stability of the entire U.S. economy.
On this urgent episode of Dangerous Intellectuals, refinery expert Mike Ariza delivers the unfiltered truth politicians and media refuse to face. He breaks down the brutal second- and third-order effects already in motion and explains exactly how California’s self-inflicted crisis is about to become America’s crisis.

@BigBrotherWatch Why portray this as being Apple’s fault?
It’s the authoritarian fucksticks in power that have mandated this. Blame Labour and the Tories.

***RE: THE BIG BEAUTIFUL BILL***
OMG. I HATE being repetitive. I HATE being non-entertaining. But this issue is too important to not keep trying to make all MAGAs understand what is best for the USA.
I totally agree with Elon, and Massie, and Rand Paul, and all those MAGAs who have been calling me a “cuck” for many days. I totally agree that the DOGE cuts need to be made into law. I totally agree that we need to balance the budget and eliminate the deficit because death and destruction lay down that path if we do not. I totally agree that we must transform the federal budgetary process.
I TOTALLY AGREE.
DEAR GOD, DO I TOTALLY AGREE.
But I am also someone who understands the legal processes involved in budgetary legislation, and I know with absolute certainty that the desires of Elon, Massie, Rand Paul and every other MAGA patriot (including me) who wants to save America are NOT POSSIBLE without 60 Senate votes. I live in the world of reality, not fantasy.
And we do not have 60 Senate votes.
I REPEAT: we need 60 Senate votes to achieve what we really, really want. We do not have those 60 votes. We just do not. Deal with it.
But what we do have is a discretionary budget bill that only requires 51 Senate votes. The Big Beautiful Bill does not even come close to solving our budgetary problems, but it IS achievable and what it does do is avert a crippling, economy-destroying tax increase. What it does do is enable President Trump to accomplish so many of his campaign promises, chief among them ending and reversing mass illegal immigration.
The Big Beautiful Bill is the best we can get. There is a reason why all Democrats violently oppose the BBB—because it enables Trump’s most important campaign promises, even if it does not memorialize DOGE cuts or balance the budget. Oppose the BBB and you are doing the Democrat’s bidding. Fact.
But I get it—it’s not good enough for you. Great. I appreciate your desire to do what is best. Now tell us all about how you can achieve what you want without 60 Senate votes.
Tell us all about how you can achieve what you want without 60 Senate votes.
Tell us. I’m all ears. If you have a solution that is possible without 60 Senate votes, I am totally behind what you come up with—I will be your biggest champion. I will spread the word. TELL US. If you give it to me (and us), you will be a hero. Tell us.
But if you cannot tell us, realize that the BBB is the very best thing we can get right now to achieve what we can of the MAGA agenda, and that fixing the budget overall will require iterative election victories where we make Vance/DeSantis/Gabbard/etc. President, achieve a solid House majority, and achieve 60+ seats in the Senate. Fixing the budget is our long-term goal, but it simply cannot happen in June of 2025. It cannot. I’m sorry to be your reality deliverer, but I must.
(And please, don’t tell me if we can end the filibuster we can solve all of this, as even now we do not have the votes to end the filibuster. We do not. Please live in reality.)
Look, I get just how unhappy this post will make so many X poasters. I do. But REALITY demands that we do the best we can for our nation.
Join me, please. Reality beckons.
