New paper out!
Habe you ever wondered how to incorporate resource scarcity in the elicitation of preferences for resource allocations? Or have you ever wanted to conduct a discrete-continuous choice experiment? Then perhaps PVE is of interest to you! https://t.co/QUEf7NzZKO
Had an amazing conference this week at #EuHEA 2024 in Vienna. Met new people and reconnected with many more, received great feedback on our study, spent some wonderful days in Vienna. Oh and our group knew how to throw a party π up to @EuHEA Rotterdam 2026 #healtheconomics
@StefanLipman@sanderboxebeld presented his research on the impact of the payment vehicle (taxation vs reallocation) in a choice experiment on publicly provided healthcare services
Ready for #EuHEA 2024 in Vienna! 12 hours by train from the Netherlands, many of them spent in R/Stata/Excel. It costs more money, fair enough, but think of the scenery you're getting, the time for data cleaning and analysis, averted emissions, and earned karma points π
As always a great atmosphere and lovely location at lolaHESG. Also a nice discussion of my multi-country DCE on skin cancer prevention policies by Mattijs Lambooij, we won the pubquiz with our dream team and cute duckies as a prize. What else could a health economist wish for?
Back from two amazing days at the lowlands Health Economics Study Group @lolaHESG, this time hosted and well-organised by @VUamsterdam in Leusden. A thread with a selection of the contributions by the more than 30 (!!) EsCHER attendants
Another year, another visit to Leeds! Every time I'm visiting @CmcLeeds@ITSLeeds, it's intense, but also very inspiring and educational. On to the next time :) @ECMC_EUR
And I was lucky to get very valuable feedback from @jobvanexel, @NMouter, the reviewers and editor at JOCM, and the audience at the EuHEA PhD-Supervisor conference (especially @EdelDoherty8) that helped me to sharpen the paper. Even as a single author, science is teamwork :)
*new paper out in Journal of Choice Modelling*
Do you conduct discrete choice experiments (DCEs)? And do you consider the impact that the presentation order of alternatives, attributes and choice sets may have on the elicited preferences?

On a personal side note: I wanted to go through the whole process of conceptualizing, conducting, writing up and publishing a study on my own. Even though this comes with limitations, especially in case of a literature review, the process has been educational and rewarding to me
Had an amazing time at @HERU_Abdn and the opportunity to give a double seminar together with @JohnBuckell. We got a warm welcome and found a great atmosphere within the department and city. Hopefully the start of renewed ties in (health) choice modelling @ECMC_EUR@EsCHER_EUR
HERC PRESENTATION NEWS
Dr @JohnBuckell will present on trial participation, model averaging, and genomic testing at @HERU_Abdn today 1 pm.
Drs @sanderboxebeld will present on participatory value evaluation at @HERU_Abdn today 11 am.

For this research visit, I've been awarded with the Van der Gaag Grant from the @_knaw, and I also gratefully acknowledge financial support from the @erasmustrust.
Since 1.5 weeks, I've been in Oxford for a two-month research visit to @HERC_Oxford/@Oxford_NDPH, hosted by @JohnBuckell. While the first days were very much about getting familiar with Oxford, I've been pleasantly welcomed and enjoying it more and more :) @ECMC_EUR@EsCHER_EUR
During these two months, I'll be working together with John and Thijs Dekker (@CmcLeeds) on a project in which we're trying to accommodate for substitution and complementarity patterns in the analysis of data from Participatory Value Evaluation (PVE) choice experiments.
@HajBrum Great, indeed! That's also what we aim to accomplish with PVE (the elicitation of preferences within a context of resource scarcity and with an eye on opportunity costs) π https://t.co/B3TDGfsY59

It was a great collaboration between a private research agency, Populytics (Tom Geijsen, Charlotte Tuit, @NMouter), a pharmaceutical company, @JNJInnovMedNED (Amr Makady, Laurence Maes, @michelvan8hoven) and universities, @ESHPM_EUR & @tudelft (me, @jobvanexel, @NMouter. (10/10)
*new publication*
How much would you like to see the government spend on different healthcare purposes? We published an open access paper on public preferences on this topic in Social Science & Medicine (1/10) @ECMC_EUR@EsCHER_EUR@ESHPM_EUR https://t.co/nOo003vX9N
Personally, participating in this research allowed me to dive into the prioritization literature and learn how to conduct an LCCA. Very rewarding π (9/10)
