These findings provide support for the idea that ELA leads to hypersensitivity to potential threat and suggest that interventions that target responses to ambiguity may be particularly powerful in mitigating the effects of adverse early experiences. (7/7)
Notably, rather than a general effect in which individuals with a history of ELA exhibited general impairments in differentiating among affective cues, we found that ELA specifically related to attenuated differentiation between ambiguity and threat. (5/7)
We also found that individual differences in behavioral responses to ambiguity related to mental health, and that this association varied as a function of ELA history. (6/7)
