What if I told you there is a tiny plant, hidden in the Nilgiri montane grasslands of the Western Ghats, that offers a masterclass in water conservation ? Hedyotis verticillaris is a remarkable plant whose rosette-shaped leaves trap and store water at their centre, creating miniature reservoirs in a landscape shaped by strong winds, mist and seasonal dryness. When summer dries the grasslands, wildlife including gaur, sambar and even the Nilgiri tahr are believed to sip from these tiny water stores. Every species therefore has a purpose. Every ecosystem has its own genius and we must learn to appreciate these wonders. #WorldEnvironmentDay #ClimateAction #NowForClimate Video: @supriyasahuias #TNForest

When Udayanidhi Stalin repeatedly attacks "sanathanam" in Tamil, why is there not more outrage among the highly religious Tamil Hindu population?
I believe it comes down to language.
In Tamil language, the word "sanathanam" (eternal in English) is not in regular use. Most Tamil people do not know this word and I did not know it myself as a child.
On the other hand the word "dharma" (spelled as "dharmam" or "dharumam") is common in Tamil and there is a district named Dharmapuri in Tamil Nadu. There is also the word "aram" used in Tamil with the same meaning as dharma.
Interestingly, in Hindi, the word "dharam" means "religion" in general and Hinduism is "hindu dharm" or "sanatan dharam" and Christianity is "isai dharam" in Hindi.
But in Tamil usage, the word "dharmam" would effectively mean "Hindu dharam" in Hindi.
Now if Udayanidhi had attacked "dharmam" in Tamil (which effectively means Hinduism) he would be widely criticised for proclaiming adharmam.
That is why he is picking the word "sanathanam" to attack because that word is not widely known in Tamil.
With all his "sincere" effort, he is making the word known in Tamil too and he has made the already huge anti DMK vote in Tamil Nadu even bigger. The DMK has never won a majority on its own ever, because of that huge strong anti-DMK current. They established that current with their constant attacks on Hindu deities. The AIADMK never did that and they harvested the anti-DMK current well.
Now, in spite of the TVK being the new anti-DMK party and in spite of the AIADMK splitting the anti-DMK vote (see how I worked it!) and in spite of the DMK spending extraordinary amounts of cash, in spite of the DMK having a strong alliance and the TVK having no alliance, the DMK lost the election.
Udayanidhi wants to ensure the DMK would never come back. May the eternal sanatana dharma grant his wish 🙏😉
Former Guidance TN MD Mr. Vishnu Venugopalan who was on a break is back. He has been appointed as an Additional Secretary to the CM. He was instrumental in securing significant investments during that tenure. Excellent choice...🙌🥳 #TN#IAS
I attended a seminar hosted by Minister Kim of the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Resources, where we discussed the summit outcomes and detailed policy directions for accelerating industrial cooperation with India.
Much work remains to unlock the full potential! 🇰🇷🇮🇳

One shot, one take. No teleprompter. No reading from paper. When was the last time a CM memorised the entire oath & delivered it with such confidence? In fact the Governor & officials were unsure if he had actually read the oath, until Vijay clarified that he indeed had.
Got this one over WhatsApp:
Beauty of Democracy…..
Bengalis are struggling to get resignation letter, while the Tamils are struggling to get appointment letter. Malayalis have both the resignation letter and the appointment letter. But don't have a name for the appointment letter!!
I don’t know much about Indian elections, let alone those in Tamil Nadu.
My overall assessment, based on studies of political economy and institutions, is that Tamil Nadu will continue to grow steadily and remain a major industrial hub.

A very important data point from The Hindu today.
Tamil Nadu may have recorded a very high turnout percentage this time, but the article makes a sharp and necessary distinction: this election has seen the lowest increase in absolute votes polled over the previous Assembly election in the last 15 years.
That is a point many television discussions have missed.
In simple terms, this means 2026 is a record turnout election in percentage terms, but not a surge election in absolute-vote terms. The revised electoral roll has clearly altered the denominator, making the turnout percentage look dramatic, even though the actual increase in votes cast over 2021 is relatively modest compared to earlier election cycles.
My takeaway is this: turnout by itself does not tell us the verdict. Tamil Nadu’s own electoral history shows there is no neat formula linking higher turnout to either regime change or regime continuity. In 2011, higher turnout accompanied change. In 2016, a much larger increase in votes polled still saw the incumbent return. In 2021, turnout dipped, yet the government changed.
So the real story of 2026 is not merely how many voted. It is who voted, where they voted, and how the revised rolls have altered constituency-level arithmetic.
Which is why I would describe this not as a simple momentum election, but as a composition election. The final outcome is likely to depend less on turnout theatre and more on vote distribution, alliance transfer, and micro-swings in marginal seats.
In one line:
This is a record-turnout election in percentage terms, but not a wave election in absolute-vote terms.
That distinction may well prove crucial when the results come in.
At the age of 99, I have seen our nation earn its voice - and today, I used mine. The first time I voted was in 1946 as a Medical Student.
Voting is not just a right, it is a responsibility to the future we leave behind.
Your one vote matters. Step out. Stand up. Be counted.
It is that time of year when hornbills nest in the Anamalai Hills of Tamil Nadu, and the valleys reverberate with their deep calls and the powerful whoosh of their wings, sounding like a helicopter in flight. They are truly the icons of this landscape. It was truly magical for me to capture a Great Hornbill mother feeding her chick, an indication that the chick is nearing fledging and is almost ready to leave the nest. During nesting, the female seals herself inside a tree cavity, remaining there through incubation and early chick development, completely dependent on the male for food. As the chick grows the female eventually breaks out of the sealed nest. From this stage onward, both parents take part in feeding, signaling that the chick is in its final phase of growth before its first flight.
In this fleeting moment you are struck by one of nature's most extraordinary stories ❤️🙌 #Hornbills #TNForest #wildlifeconservation #AnamalaiTigerReserve
With the world in turmoil, it’s perhaps the best time to escape by looking up at the Universe.
Head out to the Dark Sky Park at Ariyur Shola Reserve Forest at Kolli Hills, Tamilnadu.
Tucked away in the Forest, this is one of those rare pockets in southern India where the night sky still reveals itself in full.
It’s not at the level of the world’s best dark-sky reserves (like Atacama or Ladakh’s Hanle)
But in their own inimitable fashion, @supriyasahuias & her team have taken what was simply a naturally dark landscape & without overwhelming it, shaped it into a thoughtful destination.
And done so in an eco-friendly manner.
Visitor numbers are deliberately capped, infrastructure is minimal.
She recognised that darkness itself is a scarce resource that must be preserved & rediscovered.

Yesterday, an Indian company demonstrated an imported stove that uses electricity to generate flame-like burners, similar to LPG, for cooking. I was truly impressed by this innovative technology and would like to see Indian manufacturers adopt and scale it domestically.
When combined with @PMSuryaGhar, which enables electricity generation through solar power, this innovation could be a game changer in reducing dependence on LPG.
