This tigress P-652 of Panna Tiger Reserve, with her little cubs, is crossing a water source that is still flowing even after the monsoon, evoking a deeply natural feeling.
Female tigers like P-141, P-142, P-151, and P-652 are playing a crucial role in populating the jungle with the next generation of Panna’s tigers.
And it is precisely this responsibility taken up by them that is the sole reason this most beautiful landscape of the Vindhyachal mountain range has become a major destination for the revival of tigers. #pannasuccessstory #tigerrelocation #pannatigerreserve #bigcatsightings #wildlifeofindia
A ride on the newly built Delhi–Dehradun Expressway ✨
Built at a cost of ₹12,000+ crore, this access-controlled corridor is redefining the way we travel, making journeys faster, safer and more seamless.
Infrastructure that makes a difference. 🇮🇳
A Safety tip:
When filling up full tank, ask for auto shut-off.
After that do not shake and fill some more like this. The tank design ensures there are some air pockets in your fuel tank for movement and expansion during driving.
Overfilling can also be a risk to the emission system, besides a safety hazard.
The Rayakottai railway track is famous for the engineering marvel known as the Rayakottai Double Horseshoe Curve, located on the Salem–Bangalore line. This specific section of the track is highly popular among railfans and photographers because trains must execute two consecutive U-turn maneuvers at the same geographic point to navigate the steep, hilly terrain of the Rayakottai Ghat section.

Standing tall in Zünheboto, Nagaland, Sumi Baptist Church is renowned as one of Asia’s largest church buildings, with a seating capacity of around 8,500 people.
A remarkable landmark built on faith, unity, and the collective efforts of its people.

Building high-speed corridors is not just about smoother travel, it’s also about smarter water management. NHAI’s new guidelines emphasize comprehensive drainage planning right from the design stage to ensure rainwater is safely collected, managed and discharged without affecting commuters or surrounding communities.
From dedicated drainage systems and water harvesting structures to special provisions around underpasses, flyovers and depressed medians, every element is planned to prevent waterlogging and protect highway infrastructure. By integrating sustainable water management practices into highway development, NHAI is creating safer, more resilient and future-ready corridors for all.

NHAI's National Highway network is not just reducing distances; it is transforming the way people, goods and opportunities move across the country. With modern high-speed corridors, travel that once took several hours is becoming significantly faster, enabling smoother journeys, lower logistics costs and stronger connectivity between cities, industrial hubs and economic centres.
As these corridors expand, they are helping improve mobility, support economic growth, enhance travel comfort and bring regions closer together, creating a more connected and future-ready India.

A long post, but trust me, these stories are worth your time. As Wildlife Week concludes today, here are some little-known but significant stories of species revival in India.
In our article in @the_hindu today, Yash Veer @IUCN and I write about the efforts of governments, forest departments, scientists and communities to bring threatened wildlife back from the brink. India’s Integrated Development of Wildlife Habitats scheme supports recovery action for 24 identified species and their habitats.
Recovery needs sustained funding. The Government of Tamil Nadu’s Endangered Species Conservation Fund prioritises mahseer, striped hyena, Madras hedgehog, lion-tailed macaque and hornbill.
Internationally, the Phoenix Species Project, launched by Re:wild and the Bezos Earth Fund in 2026, has committed $200 million to the recovery of 100 of the world’s most threatened species.
Here are some inspiring stories from the field.
Clouded leopard
Meghalaya’s plan for its elusive State animal combines habitat restoration, monitoring and community participation, with 14 priority landscapes identified across the northeast.
Snow leopard
India’s first scientific assessment estimated 718 snow leopards in 2024. In Kibber, local women help conservation teams set camera traps, monitor populations and protect wildlife.
Dugong
Tamil Nadu’s 448.34 sq km Dugong Conservation Reserve protects this marine mammal’s seagrass habitat. A 2026 assessment estimated 270 dugongs across Palk Bay and the Gulf of Mannar; fishermen help by releasing animals caught in nets.
Sangai
Manipur’s wetland deer is a priority under India’s recovery programme. Saving its wetland habitat is essential to its survival.
Hangul
Kashmir’s hangul is supported through India’s species recovery framework, with habitat protection, research and monitoring central to its future.
Nilgiri tahr
Project Nilgiri Tahr combines surveys, radio-collaring and habitat assessment for Tamil Nadu’s State animal. Surveys recorded 1,303 tahrs in 2025 and 1,364 in 2026.
Vultures
The veterinary diclofenac ban, conservation breeding and safer habitats support recovery. Madhya Pradesh recorded 12,981 vultures in 2025, up from 8,397 in 2019; Pinjore’s breeding centre works with white-rumped, long-billed and slender-billed vultures.
Asiatic lion
Gujarat’s lion population rose from 674 in 2020 to 891 in 2025, supported by long-term protection, habitat management and community participation.
Greater one-horned rhinoceros
Grassland management, monitoring and translocation support recovery. In Assam’s Pobitora, communities contribute to protection and conflict reduction.
These gains take years of patient fieldwork, political commitment and scientific effort. Sustaining that work is how we turn hope into a secure future for wildlife.

As part of its comprehensive guidelines for High-Speed Access-Controlled National Highways, NHAI is integrating landscaping and environmental measures from the very beginning of project planning.
Plantation and landscaping will be incorporated across suitable locations such as medians, loop areas, roadside spaces and beneath flyovers, with designs tailored to local climate, terrain and environmental conditions. To support sustainable maintenance, drip irrigation systems will also be provided in highway medians for efficient water management.
By combining modern infrastructure with thoughtful environmental planning, NHAI is developing greener, more sustainable and aesthetically appealing National Highways that enhance both mobility and the surrounding landscape.

Transforming Road Safety Through Technology!
NHAI is leveraging the Advanced Traffic Management System (ATMS) as a technology-driven safety ecosystem that helps detect risks, deter violations and coordinate faster response on National Highways.
Through the integration of TMCS cameras, VIDES, radar systems, e-Challan mechanisms and command-and-control centres, ATMS enables continuous monitoring, timely enforcement and quicker incident response. From identifying unsafe driving and congestion to dispatching emergency services and issuing road-user alerts, technology, enforcement and field response are brought together on a single digital workflow.
By strengthening real-time monitoring and coordinated action, ATMS is helping make National Highways safer, smarter and more responsive for all National Highway users.
