Drowning to death is one of the worst ways to die. It is not instantaneous. It is not painless. You want to breathe but you can't. You are haplessly flailing, trying to find that elusive way to survive but there isn't any. First you try fighting the water and stop it from going into your body. But the water will always win. It will get in, via your mouth and penetrate your lung. It does it while causing you immense pain. And only after this ordeal, you die.

This is what Yuvraj Mehta went thru on Saturday when he accidentally overshot a 90 degree turn and fell into a commercial plot filled with water.

But what happened was no accident. It was a murder. One more murder by our apathetic, corrupt system.

First accused are the road designers who thought it was ok to build a road with 90 degree turn in an area which is known for heavy fog for the last 400 years

Then there is the traffic police who didn't mark this sharp turn with barricades, signs, speed breakers or any other stuff that warns someone of this danger. Our govts are so in love with speed breakers that they put them on National Highways. But they forgot to put one in a place where it was absolutely necessary

Then there is the irrigation department. Apparently the area is at the confluence of the Hindon and Yamuna rivers and is prone to water accumulation. In 2023, there was a proposal to build a regulator to prevent this from happening.

For the last 3 years, The UP irrigation dept and Noida Authority were fighting with each other on who should install it and in their bickering, nothing was done. This resulted in the flooding of the barren plot, which drowned Yuvraj.
Today, both are blaming each other for the mishap.

Then there was the absolute lack of response from the authorities on the distress call. Apparently they didn't enter the water because it was too cold. And by the time they did, Yuvraj had died a hideos death

If this war, people who refused would have been summarily executed for cowardice or dereliction of duty. But here they would've been given chai and samosas.

Which brings us to the most galling part.

None of the above guys will ever be punished. Some low level guy will be made the sacrificial lamb. The higher ups will be "suspended" where they will chill at home with half salary. They may even go to the Maldives and post photos on Instagram

One inquiry will be done whose report shall never be released. Because it will never be made

A deliberately weak case will be filed on some private entity which will then go on for the next 150 years.

After a month, the T20 world cup and everyone will forget him. Just like we have forgotten the deaths of the people who died in Indore or those who were burnt to death in the bus fires.

The involved officers will be reinstated, given new departments to ruin and after some time promoted. The Noida Authority guy will even become the State Chief Secretary

Everyone responsible for murdering Yuvraj will take index linked pensions and free health care for life and live in luxury and happiness forever

While the parents of Yuvraj Mehta will never recover from this tragedy and live their life regretting not sending their kid abroad, where he might have survived.

I'm seeing quite a bit of comment about this, so I want to make a couple of points.

I'm not owed eternal agreement from any actor who once played a character I created. The idea is as ludicrous as me checking with the boss I had when I was twenty-one for what opinions I should hold these days.

Emma Watson and her co-stars have every right to embrace gender identity ideology. Such beliefs are legally protected, and I wouldn't want to see any of them threatened with loss of work, or violence, or death, because of them.

However, Emma and Dan in particular have both made it clear over the last few years that they think our former professional association gives them a particular right - nay, obligation - to critique me and my views in public. Years after they finished acting in Potter, they continue to assume the role of de facto spokespeople for the world I created.

When you've known people since they were ten years old it's hard to shake a certain protectiveness. Until quite recently, I hadn't managed to throw off the memory of children who needed to be gently coaxed through their dialogue in a big scary film studio. For the past few years, I've repeatedly declined invitations from journalists to comment on Emma specifically, most notably on the Witch Trials of JK Rowling. Ironically, I told the producers that I didn't want her to be hounded as the result of anything I said.

The television presenter in the attached clip highlights Emma's 'all witches' speech, and in truth, that was a turning point for me, but it had a postscript that hurt far more than the speech itself. Emma asked someone to pass on a handwritten note from her to me, which contained the single sentence 'I'm so sorry for what you're going through' (she has my phone number). This was back when the death, rape and torture threats against me were at their peak, at a time when my personal security measures had had to be tightened considerably and I was constantly worried for my family's safety. Emma had just publicly poured more petrol on the flames, yet thought a one line expression of concern from her would reassure me of her fundamental sympathy and kindness.

Like other people who've never experienced adult life uncushioned by wealth and fame, Emma has so little experience of real life she's ignorant of how ignorant she is. She'll never need a homeless shelter. She's never going to be placed on a mixed sex public hospital ward. I'd be astounded if she's been in a high street changing room since childhood. Her 'public bathroom' is single occupancy and comes with a security man standing guard outside the door. Has she had to strip off in a newly mixed-sex changing room at a council-run swimming pool? Is she ever likely to need a state-run rape crisis centre that refuses to guarantee an all-female service? To find herself sharing a prison cell with a male rapist who's identified into the women's prison?

I wasn't a multimillionaire at fourteen. I lived in poverty while writing the book that made Emma famous. I therefore understand from my own life experience what the trashing of women's rights in which Emma has so enthusiastically participated means to women and girls without her privileges.

The greatest irony here is that, had Emma not decided in her most recent interview to declare that she loves and treasures me - a change of tack I suspect she's adopted because she's noticed full-throated condemnation of me is no longer quite as fashionable as it was - I might never have been this honest.

Adults can't expect to cosy up to an activist movement that regularly calls for a friend's assassination, then assert their right to the former friend's love, as though the friend was in fact their mother. Emma is rightly free to disagree with me and indeed to discuss her feelings about me in public - but I have the same right, and I've finally decided to exercise it.

It is a misconception that India is dirty because it is poor, and that only illiterate people have no sense of keeping their area clean.

For the past decade and a half, I have managed to participate in a few marathons during the Nov-Feb season in Mumbai. The registration price ranges from Rs 500 to Rs 1500, and it's largely an upper-middle class and rich crowd.

Participants are from the Big 4s, and biggest MNCs and Indian corporates you can think of - Deloitte, PwC, Crisil, Nomura, TCS, Aditya Birla, Reliance Group and countless others. A sizable chunk of these people are well settled in life, making lakhs of rupees and own a vehicle/house in the city.

But you should see the aftermath of a marathon in India. People throw food packets in the bushes, bottles of water all over the road, cans of energy drinks lying around half filled. Today I saw an aunty pop-in a candy and then just fling the kachra on the road. In spite of there being dedicated dustbins, there is trash all over the place. Because BMC wale aayenge na clean karne.

There is zero sense of ownership that this is our place, our area, our road. The attitude is that cleanliness is someone else's problem, and only they are responsible for it. We owe zero responsibility to the land we live in.

And this attitude is among the well educated, and rich elite of this country. Who know better, have access to resources, but don't think it their duty to be a responsible citizen.

Ghar sabko clean rakhna hai. But people don't consider India as their ghar.

The MAGA-verse has exploded in naked racist hatred of successful Indian-Americans. I have said this many times in my podcast, that the *real* hatred in the core Trump base (the Steve Bannon sub-cult) is not for illegal immigrants but legal immigrants.

Illegal immigrants do not take what white people consider to be their jobs, they do work that they do not want to do: landscaping, janitorial work, fast food and agriculture. They are also all Christians, almost always Catholic.

However Indian-Americans, who all come legally, are seen differently. As long as they were Y2K bug fixers, the hate was controlled, but as they have migrated to executive positions and now political appointments, the hate among huge sections of the white MAGA-verse has been activated. These are “white jobs” and they feel entitled to them.

That they are also not Christians is the icing on the hate cake.

This hatred is shared by the Bernie-AOC progressives too. But their rhetoric is different, and they approach it to through the Theory (note the capital T) of oppressor-oppressed and white adjacency and their hatred for Big Tech (a common enemy for both extremes), while for the MAGA crowd it’s just garden variety racist hate that stems from Judea-Christian supremacist beliefs.
