MAGA and the right-wing nut jobs they want to decide what books you can read, what history your children can learn, what medicines you’re allowed to take, what surgeries you can have, what gender you’re permitted to be, what sports you can play, which bathroom you can use, who you can love, and who you can marry. They want to own your library, your classroom, your hospital room, your bedroom—and now your television. They want to own the page, the pill, the joke, the chant, the kiss, the very pronoun in your mouth. And then, with breathtaking cynicism, they’ll look straight at you and say it’s the Left who are coming for your freedom. Small government? My fucking ass. This isn’t small government. This is government in your bloodstream, in your dictionary, in your bed, and now in your goddamn remote control.
Consent should be viewed as a continuous dialogue rather than a one-time agreement made at the beginning of an encounter. It’s essential to communicate clearly and simply, emphasising the importance of seeking enthusiastic consent rather than just settling for a reluctant yes. This approach is not only direct and easy to understand but also maintains a sense of playfulness, making the conversation about consent both engaging and respectful.
Let the girl vent, it's her lived experience, so it's extremely valid.
Every single trans person I know has been through traumatic experiences. Family rejection, healthcare discrimination, job loss, sexual assault, denial of services, substance abuse, and the list goes on.
Being trans is hard.
It’s not “fun” or “trendy.” It’s not a “new thing.” It’s not the latest fad. It’s repeatedly demanding people treat you like you’re human. It’s constantly explaining yourself. It’s having religion thrown in your face.
It’s repeating your truth over and over when your grandmother just won’t use the right pronouns or name. It’s exhausting. Sometimes we hit our limit. And that’s when we get mad.
I’m tired of seeing black trans women murdered. I’m done hearing the stories my transmasculine friends tell me in support groups about how they have to pick between medically transitioning or their job.
I don’t want to hear another story about a trans friend who can’t stay with their biological family anymore because they make them feel like absolute shit but they don’t have any other place to go.
Someone called me recently looking for housing for a “man who identifies as female.” So she’s a female then.
Know that our resilience only goes so far. We are fighting everyday. And at some point you just get tired. Not only is it exhausting to have to face the trauma of being trans in the real world everyday, but then you come to an LGBT space, and it’s terrible there, too.
I’m tired of white gay cis men leading the fight on transgender issues because trans people aren’t “articulate” enough, or “savvy” enough, or the right skin color, or don’t have the education, or they don’t dress appropriately, or they don’t know how fundraising works, or they haven’t been doing this work long enough.
It is bullshit.
Our real world experiences as trans people more than qualifies us to lead the fight on trans issues. So step aside and let us lead the way. Let us tell you what we need. We know better than anybody how to help our community.
So if you’re a member of the LGBT community but you aren’t trans, you don’t get a pass to ask a trans person personal and invasive questions just because we fall under the same sexual orientation and gender identity minority umbrella.
And you don’t get to speak for trans people because you have trans friends, or do trans work, or even have a trans partner. And you don’t get to tell us what we need or how we need to ask for it to get the respect and humanity we deserve.
If you’re trans and reading this, I know you’re tired.
I know your resilience only keeps you going for so long. I know you need a break from being you. Because I feel the same way all the time. It’s OK to get angry, it’s OK to be exhausted, , it’s OK to wish you weren’t trans anymore. We didn’t get to choose this life. Yet, here we are, fighting anyway❤️
@JennaJacobin
@DoorDash How about with some fans? Either the fun festie dancing kind... 🪭🪭 Or the battery powered kind because it's pretty gross outside and everyone deserves to be comfy. 😎🧊 What can I say, @DoorDash , I'm a fan of y'all 😅
@k_tinathealien@ClaireMax Same except my insurance has never covered it, specifically excludes all weight loss (& doesn't care that I'm having T2D symptoms & that it's 2x inherited, my A1C is one number off so no coverage for me). $449/mo is the cheapest I've paid to not have hypoglycemic episodes. 😭
@IanColdwater As a smart person in tech I know every time I try to solve a complex problem with a seemingly simple solution I very quickly learn all the reasons no one before me has done that.
The focus in the media on gender affirming care is coming from the 1% of people that regret it. Ignoring the 99% of us that do not. We need to lift up more trans voices. There are 99% of us who are happy with what we’ve done.
Unfortunately that’s not how media works. They want sensationalism. They want to foster negativity because it generates clicks & views. Add into the mix that being trans is a hot button issue, & you have a recipe for disaster.
The 1% that regret it should not be running the table in this conversation. They should, of course, be a part of the discourse. Just not ALL of the discourse. That’s an incredibly skewed viewpoint & not representative of the trans experience.
@diannaeanderson Anyone who says trans people are "confused" about their identity is confused about what trans people are actually saying. There are a lot of confused people here, but it's not the trans people.
@ROBlNDANGER yeah, I do, sometimes. I have had arthritis and hypermobility since I was a teenager. Some days, driving is less painful and preserves spoons for other things I need to do.
@ClaireMax My dad's dad died forty years ago on the day before I was born, from lung cancer earned from a lifetime of smoking. I only ever met his youngest sibling too, who was on oxygen by then as well. Cigs were cool then, vapes are cool now, smoking still kills. We know & can do better.
@ROBlNDANGER Bear mace is weaker than regular mace, it just propels further (20'+). It'd work in a pinch against a dude, but you might prefer the full strength stuff.
