Thai Army reiterates right to self-defense under international law, condemns Cambodian behavior, and declares "When we stop, but they don't stop... the world must know."
Maj. Gen. Witthaya Lai-Thomya, spokesperson for the Royal Thai Armed Forces Headquarters, revealed that in accordance with the agreement between the Thai and Cambodian governments to cease military hostilities along the border, effective 12:00 AM on July 28, 2025, to pave the way for peace and cooperation between the neighboring countries,
The Royal Thai Armed Forces has confirmed that the Thai side strictly adhered to the ceasefire agreement, halting all firing immediately upon the designated time, upholding the commitment made by both governments.
However, in the period after the ceasefire took effect, the Cambodian side continued to fire weapons into Thai territory at multiple locations. This constitutes a deliberate violation of the agreement and undermines the trust that should exist between neighboring countries.
The Royal Thai Armed Forces condemns such behavior by the Cambodian side and reaffirms that Thailand has the necessity to retaliate under the right to self-defense according to international law. Thailand is not using force for aggression, but to protect national sovereignty and the safety of its people.
"When we stop, but they don't stop... the world must know that Cambodia is the persistent violator of the agreement and the party that disregards international rules, ignores any international agreements declared on the global stage, and poses a threat to regional and global security."
“Accepting such behavior would allow injustice to become a norm in the international system. Therefore, the Royal Thai Armed Forces calls upon the international community to collectively stand on the principles of truth, justice, and international rule of law to achieve peace as intended.”
