Many have asked me what I think of the Sumud Flotilla heading to Gaza. I have not commented on this because I genuinely believe it is a waste of time, effort, energy, space, and focus. Approaching Gaza with a predetermined outcome, in which you know the Israeli navy is going to intercept you, and yet persisting with said useless and futile action tells me you are the most unserious player who is simply trying to gain attention and make a point, not to make a difference. Everybody knows that Israel has a blockade on Gaza, including a naval component; you are not raising awareness about anything that the entire world doesn’t already know.

You cannot access Gaza’s territorial waters during wartime without coordination with the more powerful and controlling party, which in this case is Israel. In fact, the maritime corridor between Cyprus and Gaza that was activated last year proved that the coastal enclave could be open for business if Israel’s legitimate security needs are met. This created a precedent that, after two decades of Israeli control of territorial water with coordination and trusted third parties, you could indeed make something happen in Gaza, even though that particular corridor is no longer in action.

If you truly wanted to make a difference, you might have considered using the port of Ashdod to deliver aid into Gaza or collaborating with Egypt and the UAE to land aid via El-Arish port and transport it via trucks to the Strip. The realities of war and realpolitik are not vanishing for a group of selfie activists who have no clue about how the real world works. I wish we would stop hearing about Greta Thunberg and Western activists trying to make this endeavor about themselves instead of making a difference and engaging in radical pragmatism. I wish we would stop wasting time and resources that could have been better spent on actually sending a larger quantity of aid into Gaza to support Palestinians.

I wish this time and energy were allocated toward the grunt work that I, along with many of my colleagues, do behind the scenes to conduct evacuations of patients and their families, as well as humanitarian cases from Gaza into Middle Eastern or Western countries. May this be the last selfie-flotilla that we have to discuss, and may these activists start actually helping the Palestinian people of Gaza instead of wasting time on self-centered and self-absorbed actions and interventions.

What's taking place at "ArabCon" over the past couple of days in Dearborn, Michigan, is shameful & embarrassing. Overt, explicit, unapologetic support for terrorism and Hamas, all under the guise of "liberation & resistance." Now, you're not even allowed to condemn Oct 7 or Hamas. Speaker after speaker, the extremist rhetoric and the shifting of the goal posts and the moving of the Overton Window have altered the landscape in the worst possible ways.

When Mehdi Hasan is considered "irksome" because he doesn't support Hamas or October 7, or when hordes of "academics, students, comedians, politicians, journalists, and community leaders" go on and on about support for "resistance" and fail to register the catastrophe that Hamas has been for Gaza, with thunderous applause, you know that this community is lost and hopeless.

I wish they'd all trade places with Gazans and go live with their beloved resistance group; I wish every Palestinian or Arab American that's stupid enough to support Hamas's terrorism would give up their US and Western privilege and offer it to trapped Palestinians in Gaza instead, since they clearly don't know how to take advantage of the gifts and privileges they have.

And these are the folks that are somehow supposed to represent Palestinians' interests in the diaspora; these are the folks that are supposed to have a diverse spectrum of views and opinions like every other community does; these are the folks that I'm supposed to be "relevant" with in order to appear as a "real" Palestinian - no thanks!

I spent the entire day trying to make someone care about Russia’s murder of 24 people, most of them elderly, who were simply standing in line to collect their pensions.

Russia dropped an aerial bomb on them as if they were a military command or strategic object. They were simple people trying to survive the russian war.

But I suppose in today’s world, being murdered on a day crowded with headlines means being murdered in silence, without even the dignity of being seen in death.

You know, I am so sick of these mornings. It doesn't matter that I barely slept, it doesn't matter that the air raid siren was blaring all night. But another massive attack on Ukraine, and watching people being pulled from under the rubble of their own homes, it's unbearable. Once again, there's a flood of news about Ukraine; the world's media, like scavengers, will start tearing apart the images of destruction on social media to show everyone what's happening in my country. And this has been going on for an unbearably long time. I'm so fed up that almost every morning in my country starts like this. How wonderful it was to live in peacetime, God, how beautiful it was to have a peaceful sky.

Sometimes I wrote that you get used to it... No, that's an illusion. It is impossible to get used to this crap that russia is bringing to my country!

Today, all day long there will be reports about this night's massive attack: counts of destroyed houses, counts of dead Ukrainians, counts of the wounded. It's some kind of time loop, and we are stuck in it. A loop where in the morning, any Ukrainian can simply be found with their eyes closed, not because they are still sleeping, but because they died because of the russians.

ℹ️ Greta Thunberg entführt!

Es ist eine unfassbar lächerliche Show, die da gerade versucht wird. Live Ticker bei Al Jazeera, ständige Meldungen bei der Freedom Flotilla und Francesca Albanese... kannst'e dir nich ausdenken.

Denn es bekommt kaum jemand mit, weil die Israelis das Schiff einfach aufgebracht haben, während Europa - die wichtigste Zielgruppe – schläft.
Die meisten werden dies lesen, wenn alles längst gelaufen ist.

▶️ Zur Einordnung ein paar nächtliche Worte.

Zunächst zum Sprachgebrauch:
„Entern“ bedeutet, ein fremdes Schiff mit Gewalt einzunehmen. „Aufbringen“ bedeutet, das Kommando über ein Schiff zu übernehmen. Das kann mit Gewalt, aber auch ohne ablaufen.
Das Englische unterscheidet hier nicht, der Begriff lautet einfach „boarding“, was schlicht „an Bord gehen“ bedeutet.
Es ist also denkbar, dass jemand im Englischen oder Arabischen über das Englische von „boarding“ spricht, und irgendwer es als „entern“ übersetzt. Das ist aber nicht passiert.

▶️ Die Seeblockade

Es ist anzumerken, dass sich das Seekriegsrecht fundamental vom „normalen“ Kriegsvölkerrecht unterscheidet. Alleine schon dadurch, dass es ja das offene Meer gibt, das niemandem gehört

▶️ Israel und Ägypten (!) unterhalten seit Jahren eine Seeblockade gegen den Gazastreifen. Um den Schmuggel von Kriegsgerät zu unterbinden. Das hat also nix mit dem Gazakrieg zu tun.

2010 versuchten Schiffe der Freedom Flottilla, der gleichen Organisation wie heute, diese Seeblockade zu durchbrechen. Als die Schiffe aufgebracht werden sollten, griff die Besatzung der Mavi Marmara die israelischen Soldaten an. Neun Besatzungsmitglieder wurden getötet.

Ein Bericht des durch die UN dafür eingerichteten „Palmer Komitees“ kritisierte im Jahr darauf die israelische und die türkische Seite. Es kam jedoch zu dem Schluss, dass die Seeblockade rechtens ist.
Der Bericht liegt mir vor.

▶️ Nochmal: Ein Bericht der UN hat die Seeblockade als legal eingestuft.

Daher war völlig klar und von vielen angesagt, was mit Greta Thunbergs Schiff passieren würde:
Israel würde das Schiff abfangen und entweder freiwillig zum israelischen Hafen Ashdod geleiten, oder es aufbringen und dorthin fahren.

Genau das ist um ziemlich genau 02:00h Ortszeit passiert. Inzwischen liegt das Schiff vor Anker.

Die Crew hat bis zum Schluss versucht, dramatische Bilder und Meldungen zu produzieren.
Sie haben sich Schwimmwesten angezogen und – ernsthaft – ihre Handys ins Wasser geworfen. Alles aufgenommen mit zwei Kameras und veröffentlicht durch die Freedom Flotilla.
Anschließend haben sie sich wohl von den Israelis festnehmen lassen.

Was u.a. Francesca Albanese und die Flotilla nun dazu benutzen dramatisch zu melden, sie hätten den Kontakt verloren. Was ja auch jetzt irgendwie nicht überraschend ist, denn erstens sind die Vögel festgenommen und zweitens haben sie soeben ihre Handys ins Mittelmeer geschmissen. Die Blitzgescheiten.

Nihad Awad vom Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) sagte, das sei ein „eklatanter Akt internationaler Piraterie und Staatsterrorismus“ …äh, wenn dann waren das doch die Piraten, dachte ich. Geschenkt.

Weiterhin hat die Flotilla nun vorbereitete Videos der Besatzungsmitglieder veröffentlicht, die an ihre jeweilige Regierung appellieren. Jeder in einem eigenen Video.

Ja. Richtig. „Entführt“.

▶️ Was ich ganz persönlich als unfassbare, unverfrorene Unverschämtheit empfinde ist, dass der Begleittext aller Videos mit „SOS“ beginnt. „Safe Our Souls“ ist AUSSCHLIEßLICH der eindeutigen Lebensgefahr vorbehalten. Jeder würde zur Hilfe eilen, selbst wenn es der Feind wäre. Das zu missbrauchen ist für jeden Seemann ein völliger Tabubruch, ich kann gar nicht in Worte fassen, wie sehr mich das abstößt.

Dummerweise hat Albanese schon veröffentlicht, dass niemand verletzt wurde.
Al Jazeera hat veröffentlich, es habe ein Video gesehen, in dem ein uniformierter Israeli der Besatzung trocken sagt „Wenn Sie humanitäre Hilfe in den Gazastreifen liefern möchten, können Sie das über den Hafen von Ashdod tun. Wir haben Kanäle und Verteilungszentren eingerichtet.“

Albanese habe al Jazeera daraufhin gesagt „Israel hat keine Autorität über Gaza. Das ist der Punkt. Israel muss die Belagerung beenden.“ Dabei hat die UN, die Organisation bei der sie selber Sonderberichterstatterin ist, festgestellt, dass die Seeblockade nichts mit der Situation an Land zu tun hat und dass sie legal ist.

Es kommt mir alles vor wie die digitale Variante davon, dass ein Demonstrant einen Polizisten angreift, sich dann widersetzt und laut „Polizeigewalt“ schreit, nur weil er festgenommen wird.

Es wird auf Teufel komm raus versucht, Israel zu provozieren und etwas zu konstruieren, was den Hamas-Narrativen entspricht. Aber schön ungefährlich.
Daher habe ich beim Posting eines kurzen Videos des israelischen Außenministeriums auch laut gelacht. (03:25h MEZ)

„Alle Passagiere der »Selfie-Yacht« sind wohlauf und unverletzt. Sie wurden mit Sandwiches und Wasser versorgt. Die Show ist vorbei.“

Woraufhin der Juraprofessor Adil Haque von der Rutgers University meinte, das Ministerium sei gut beraten, keine Videos mit „Beleidigungen“ zu posten. „Verstöße gegen die persönliche Würde, insbesondere erniedrigende und entwürdigende Behandlung, sind ein Kriegsverbrechen.“
Ja. So habe ich auch geguckt.

Was? Die Überschrift ist Clickbait?
Tja, die ist aber eigentlich ja von denen. 🤷‍♂️

Eigentlich wusste ich es ja vorher. Und dafür schlag ich mir die Nacht um die Ohren.
Aber irgendwie war es die Lachnummer wert.

Natürlich werden die Üblichen weiter versuchen einen Skandal zu konstruieren. Aber für die meisten Menschen haben sich da einige „Aktivisten“ enorm zum Hodenkobold gemacht.

Ich geh ausschlafen.
