Sa'id ibn al-Musayyib
He is Sa'id ibn al-Musayyib ibn Hazn, the leader of the Tabi'in , and one of the Seven Jurists of Madinah. He saw 'Umar, and heard from 'Uthman, 'Ali, Zayd ibn Thabit, Abu Musa, Sa'd, 'A'ishah, Abu Hurayrah, Ibn 'Abbas, Muhammad ibn Maslamah, Umm Salamah, and many others besides them. It is also said that he heard directly from 'Umar. He died in 91 AH, though 92 AH and other years have also been mentioned.
Ibn 'Umar said of him: "By Allah, he is one of the muftis."
Ahmad ibn Hanbal and several others said: "The mursal narrations of Sa'id ibn al-Musayyib are authentic."
Qatadah, Makhul, al-Zuhri, and others according to Qatadah said: "I have never seen anyone more knowledgeable than Sa'id ibn al-Musayyib."
'Ali ibn al-Madini said: "I know of no one among the Tabi'in with broader knowledge than Ibn al-Musayyib; in my view, he is the most eminent of the Tabi'in."
