Shivaji died defeated. His first son, Sambhaji, was defeated and executed, while his second son, Rajaram, was defeated and died while being pursued. His four granddaughters were married to Muslims.

The Muslim Nizams ruled 36% of Maharashtra until 1947, or 240 years after the death of Aurangzeb, who had ruled over 70% of Maharashtra.

Meanwhile, Shivaji ruled only 26% of Maharashtra at the peak of his power, and his descendants (the Kolhapur branch) ruled merely 2.5% of Maharashtra from 1819 to 1947.

Not just that, his grandson, Shahu, considered himself a slave of Aurangzeb, and when he tried to break free, the House of Shivaji was subjugated and turned into a puppet dynasty by the Brahmin Peshwas.
