The Open House event for high school students held by the University of Puerto Rico was fantastic! It's an honor to represent @OpticaUPRM as a member of the team. It was a fantastic opportunity to teach the scientists of tomorrow via hands-on experiments.
Using Tinkercad, I created this fixture to motorize a micrometer-controlled pinhole. Combined with a C# software routine, it enables automated scanning, reconstruction, and fitting of 2D beam profiles.
Very inspiring to see your ideas come to reality!

GPT-6 Astra is incredible!
In just 41 minutes, it one-shotted a major improvement of the webpage I’ve been developing as part of the @OpticaUPRM Outreach Project to bring a fun optical simulator to everyone, to learn optics by playing!
Hopefully, it will be hosted online soon!
Latest progress on a polarization-sensitive scanner: 3D printing has been a lifesaver. PLA lacked the stiffness for this setup, so PET-CF became my go-to for its mechanical and thermal stability. Iterate, test, modify—eventually it works. #3DPrinting#Optics#Automation
Alignment complete. Looking forward to a productive final week of measurements for the year. Here's to small steps and significant insights!🔬✨

Thermo_pw is a game-changer for my work. It automatically calculates ab-initio material properties, giving me decent estimates of electron and lattice heat capacities. These are essential for my Two Temperature Models. #TwoTemperatureModel#QuantumESPRESSO
Compiling Quantum Espresso with the correct libraries is critical to unlock the CPU's full potential. For AMD CPUs, using both AOCL and AOCC can lead to 4x faster results than a single-command installation. It's worth the extra effort! #DFT#QuantumEspresso#AMD
DFT computations provide unique perspectives. For instance, they may suggest that doping adjusts crystal structures by expanding interlayer spacing, indicated through QE relaxation (vc-relax by pw.x), as in the example here. #DFT#QuantumEspresso#MaterialScience
Utilizing the Tauc method for bandgap estimation isn't always feasible due to broad-spectrum requirements. As a workaround, I apply the Drude-Lorentz model to available spectra, expanding our reach. The results? Simply terrific! #ScienceSolutions#BandgapEstimation#TaucPlot
I'm grateful to the @PublicLab community and the @madrauer group from @CUBoulder for making their 3D-printed models and assembly instructions available to the public. Thank you for your dedication to making science more accessible! #STEM#OpenScience#DIY
Exciting news! 🎉 Received the parts for my first 3D printed spectrometers and I couldn't be happier with the quality thanks to the amazing work of EPIC Workshop and Juan J Colon. I can't wait to start building and testing! #3DPrinting#Spectrometers#Innovation
Just watched the first movie made using BURAI and Quantum Espresso 🎥 and it's seriously mind-blowing! 🤯 These tools bring molecular dynamics to life, making science accessible and exciting! #science#innovation 🔬💻
Just started learning how to use BURAI and Quantum Espresso and my mind is blown 🤯 These programs are making my simulations soar to new heights 🚀 Time to tackle some complex systems with ease! #quantumcomputing#science#excited 🔬💻
The last day of Winter School was as great as the School overall! It was a pleasure to attend Dr. Donna Strickland's talk. It covered a lot of topics, and was highly educational and inspirational.
We hope you can join us tomorrow for Dr. Donna Strickland's talk in the ILC 120 at 9 am. Wyant College graduate students just finished up meeting with her and enjoyed learning about her amazing experiences.
