the fact arirang was so much bigger than any of their albums still they decided to not submit it to the grammys bc they cant allow someone to limit their music to a category
this clearly shows how bts see music as an art rather than as something that just sells
I don't think people fully understand the magnitude of this decision.
Some of the music industry's most respected producers, writers, engineers, and creatives worked on ARIRANG. A project built to the highest artistic standard. One producer even spoke publicly about hoping the album would receive Grammy recognition.
Then the Recording Academy introduced a category specifically for Asian pop.
And BTS chose not to submit.
Think about that. The biggest musical project of the year. One of the strongest commercial and artistic contenders. A project that could have competed across multiple major categories. It simply won't be in the race because the artists chose principle over prestige.
Moves like this don't happen often. When artists at BTS' level willingly walk away from the biggest stage in music, the conversation shifts because of what they refused to endorse.
When Forbes said this about BTS and Grammys:
"But as BTS continue smashing records and the Grammys continue to lose relevance, who really needs who?"
🗣🗣
south korea’s government lured bts with an exemption for years to control them but bts enlisted on their own terms and made sure to announce it in front of the government that had been holding their necks. now the grammys have created an “asian” category to segregate bts from the main awards and bts stood their ground by refusing to participate in that racism and oppression. historians will write about you, bts.
BTS is choosing to stand against the vile segregating policies of award shows that treat non-English speaking artists as outsiders who don't belong in the main categories.
Separating artists by language doesn't celebrate diversity. It normalizes separation. That's exactly the kind of barrier BTS has spent their entire career breaking down.
BTS has proven that good music transcends language, culture, and borders. They've brought people from every corner of the world together through their music, and staying true to those values means more than any award ever could. 💜
jungkook on instagram:
“we have decided not to submit for the Grammys this year. we hope that music can be heard and appreciated for what it is, rather than being defined by region or language. thank you to ARMY and to everyone who has always supported us.”
*him and the rest of the tannies have shared the same message on their instagram stories🥺💜
"Let music be heard for what it is, not judged by the language it's sung in or the country it comes from."
THAT'S ONE OF THE MOST POWERFUL STATEMENTS BANGTAN EVER MADE
When Namjoon called out the change ruled of music industry;
🐨"I don’t know if that’s right … It just feels like we’re easy targets because we’re a boy band, a K-pop act, and we have this high fan loyalty.”

BTS announces they will not submit their music for the 2027 GRAMMY awards, following the Recording Academy’s addition of an Asian-focused category:
“I hope music itself can be heard and loved rather than being distinguished by region or language.”
