@gaulaiel idk where rafe et al are going and i certainly like the EF5 fine but i am fascinated by the worldbuilding, not yet another quest narrative, you know? and the aes sedai are our gateway into that and what make the series stand out in the fantasy genre

'you're mistaking moiraine for a main char because she's played by a big name who's attracting viewers' is sending me

her importance in the show is beefed up from the books IN ORDER to get a big name SO THAT the show would have a higher likelihood of getting picked up

@gaulaiel i think a little bit of semantics, yes, but also i don't know that her role might not evolve, and if it does, i think that's great as a fan and for the show bc she and the aes sedai are what make the show unique! and the books, frankly

@gaulaiel the show is very deliberately working to be diverse, representative, inclusive, and trying to deny that a queer female character is as important as she is comes across poorly. again, not saying you are trying to be homophobic.

@gaulaiel imo it's controversial and people are upset because there is a perceived backlash in the fandom against any changes and specifically changes that increase show diversity. not saying your specific take is that but it is coming into that conversation.

anyway, some of that is certainly subjective, but moiraine's place in the adaptation is certainly... not

and yeah i'm biased because i have loved moiraine and siuan for decades but also, putting them in the centre helps the show stand out from the zillion other chosen one narratives, plus it's a brilliant bit of worldbuilding in terms of creating stakes
