China: Behind the Scenes of the Mecca Pact

Exactly on the day the Mecca Pact was announced, I said that Pakistan, as a Chinese proxy actor—or, more precisely, as a pillar of the Chinese geopolitical order—is seeking to replace Israel as a pillar of the American geopolitical order.

In this context, the more successful China and Pakistan become in designing and advancing frameworks such as the Mecca Pact as an alternative to the Abraham Accords, the more they will draw Islamic actors such as Saudi Arabia and Turkey, followed by Syria, Kuwait, Bahrain, and eventually Jordan and the UAE, into the Chinese orbit. The result would be a shift in the geopolitical playing field in China’s favor, the growing isolation of Israel, and increased pressure on the United States to withdraw from the region.

The choice now lies with the United States: whether to sacrifice its broader geopolitical interests for the sake of gasoline prices, a few days of inflation, and the global left’s media campaign, along with Chinese, Islamist, and Russian disinformation. Continuing down this path would inflict enormous damage on vital U.S. interests—from the dollar’s position and the global financial transaction system to American naval power and energy markets—and would ultimately accelerate China’s replacement of the United States in the global order.

I’ve been thinking about how everyone is gaming out a “potential” Iran deal. President Trump calls it “largely negotiated” and Don Jr, (shamelessly) is already hyping it as an absolute win, but nowhere in their victory lap are the Iranian people themselves. If the U.S. Navy has Iran blockaded and Tehran has no real air force or navy left, why are we talking about showering this regime with concessions at all? When you hold all the cards and still feel the need to bribe a terror state to act human, it does not look like America is the side that is winning. Meanwhile the IRGC is hanging protesters and political prisoners like Milad Armon, Mohammad‑Mehdi Hosseini, Navid Najaran and Mehdi Imani, young men who were told help was on the way and are instead walking to the gallows. @marklevinshow @LindseyGrahamSC
