I was born in Tampa, but half the kids I grew up playing in the swamps and on the beaches with weren’t. And honestly? Nobody cared.

There’s the birth certificate definition of a native Floridian, and then there’s the rule everyone actually lives by: if you moved here in a car seat, you count.
If you don’t remember living anywhere else, if your entire K through 12 routine happened in the humidity, and if your childhood summer memories are equal parts mosquito bites, hurricane days, and learning to swim before you could fully walk — you’re a native.

At a certain point, it’s not about where the hospital was. It’s about spending every formative year of your life sweating through the exact same summer and never knowing any different.
