I’d first like to welcome SHIP SHIP HOORAY to the team and congratulate Rory Zweifel on the successful claim! But second, I have to point out that, I, once upon an apprentice jockeys time, rode his dam to a 2nd place finish, first time out at 43-1 on the turf at Laurel Park for Anne Merryman and his breeder Laura McKinney! What a small world and bringing back memories from my time on the mid-Atlantic, where it all began!
With limited starts at Churchill this spring meet we still managed to finish 50% in the money. The most exciting finish was SHE’S ON A ROLL, rolling in fashionably late to secure a 2nd place in MSW company first off the 50k claim! Here’s a little recap!
You won’t find a cooler tradition than the post parade for the last race at @OaklawnRacing every year: The Trail’s End Stakes (at a mile and 3/4’s!)
The crowd salutes the horses, jockeys, pony’s and pony people, and the horses and horse people on the track in turn do the same.
It’s a showing of respect and appreciation-from all the hard work from the folks in our business to the fans who keep the game alive supporting the industry.
