35 years ago 14 women were shot and killed at l’École Polytechnique because they were women.
Today on the National Day of Remembrance and Action on Violence Against Women, we grieve their memory.
And renew our efforts to end gender-based violence once and for all.
Meet BC's new cabinet! These are the people who set direction for Government and take care of the day-to-day operations. Together, they will continue to work on the core challenges people are facing; bringing down costs, health care, making communities safer and more. #BCPoli
The world faces challenging times, with polarization and fear prevalent in many societies. From social media hostility to global conflicts, from self-centric politics to religions being used to divide people, negativity seems to be taking up a lot of space and becoming louder than ever. Yet, it's vital to maintain faith in humanity. Despite these challenges, numerous examples of human kindness, cooperation, and resilience exist. Communities unite in crises, people show selfless generosity, and grassroots movements strive for positive change. These stories remind us of the goodness in people. From my snow-covered environment in the Yukon, I'm sending joy, hope, and positivity.

The #BCLeg Canadian flag is flying at half-mast until sunset today to honour the life and memory of the late Hon. Murray Sinclair, CC, OM, MSC, in recognition of his immense contributions to Canada. The flag will again fly at half-mast on the day of the funeral (date TBA).
@JamesBachm63589@Dave_Eby A quick search of his posts prior to posting may have been helpful. Comments like this highlight the need for our leaders to express good wishes for non Christian holidays, as we are a multicultural society in Canada
Holy shit, this “American girl” ad from @senecaprojectus is amazing!!!
Hard to see the letters I’m typing through the tears streaming down my face though.
THE KIDS ARE DOING BETTER ❤️
The BC Coroners Service released updated drug death numbers last week. ⭐️Quick reminder that BC’s data on the toxic drug crisis is the fastest and most complete in North America⭐️
First: although drug deaths continue to drop and the crisis is slowly improving, we still lost 187 and 183 people in August and September respectively. They were preventable deaths. If we had a regulated drug supply, and expanded access to harm reduction services and treatment … most of those people would still be alive 😢
But let’s talk about children and youth.
For more than a year, and especially during the election cycle, we’ve been subject to exaggerated claims about the impact of B.C.’s drug policies on our children. Right-wing politicians, opinion writers, radio hosts, and rage farmers have warned us that children and youth in B.C. are getting addicted and dying in record numbers because of:
➡️ prescribed alternatives (aka safer supply)
➡️the decriminalization pilot
➡️ overdose prevention sites
➡️ supervised consumption programs
➡️ the availability of clean needles & pipes
➡️ the “normalization” of drug use
➡️ a lack of forced drug treatment for children
THEY’RE WRONG.
✅ We already know that the incidence rate of new addictions in youth has been dropping since 2017.
✅ New Coroners’ data tells us that drug deaths in people under 19 are DOWN 35% in 2024, compared to 2023. That’s a significant drop — better than the reduction in deaths for all age groups (8%).
👉 THERE’S MORE WORK TO DO.
We need to focus on prevention for children and youth, and on upstream factors that can lead to drug use, especially mental health and wellness. But it’s good to know that drug policies in B.C. are helping — and NOT causing an increase in addictions and deaths among our children as claimed by pro-harm advocates 👍

A milestone worth celebrating: 49 women are set to serve in the #BCLeg 43rd Parliament, marking the first time in BC's history that more women than men will take their seat in the Legislative Chamber (also a first for a Canadian provincial legislature) #WomensHistoryMonth#BCpoli
