Growing up, I wish I had been exposed to more of the dialects spoken across the Maldives. But that was never the vision of our Male'-centric governments.
This is a step in the right direction.
The @mvpeoplesmajlis represents all of us, from the far south to the far north, from the wealthy to the struggling, from the conservative to the liberal. It should also reflect the rich linguistic and cultural diversity of our islands.
This is not unusual. Around the world, multilingual legislatures are common. New Zealand's Parliament allows English, Te Reo Māori, and New Zealand Sign Language. Singapore's Parliament allows English, Malay, Mandarin, and Tamil. Language is a fundamental part of representation, and that principle should extend to the dialects spoken across the Maldives.
To make this work, Parliament should provide interpretation services, especially during the transition, so that every MP can fully participate regardless of the dialect being spoken.
Progressive institutions do not resist every change. They embrace change, invest in the systems that make it work, and ensure that everyone is included.

Pros of being married: you have a built-in buddy for late night kitchen adventures & watching a movie together when you guys can’t sleep
Cons: once you’re fully invested in the movie (that he suggested) you’ll find him red-eyed & falling asleep on the couch 😒 @nazylmv
