Verona Murphy is ex-Fine Gael, but ran an election campaign all about being 'independent'. She was voted in today with the backing of Fianna Fáil and Fine Gael - not very independent after all.

This is a clear example of what People Before Profit warned about before the election. That right wing and opportunistic politicians were running as Independents, but once the vote was over, they would work closely with FF and FG.

Verona Murphy is no stranger to dog whistle comments about migrants, and has been a staunch supporter of landlords. That's why Fine Gael and Fianna Fáil are happy to support her as Ceann Comhairle.

There were over 10,000 at the time of the 2020 general election.
