@laurenspieller How can you as an agent tell the difference between "this doesn't fit genre categories well and won't sell" and "this doesn't fit genre categories well and will sell bc XYZ"?
Also in the Alabama ruling on frozen embryos is this:
“Doctors must create just one embryo at a time. Each embryo, no matter how poor its quality, must be transferred. Only one embryo may be transferred at a time. If the cycle fails, the whole process must start all over again.
IVF patients would have to accept the transfer of a single low-quality embryo that is certain to fail—and to do so one embryo at a time. Each transfer requires months’ worth of expensive medication, including injectable, both before and after the procedure. And each failed cycle requires the patient to start all over again. Most states (including Alabama) do not require insurance to cover IVF, and each cycle can cost up to $30,000. This would force patients—the ones who can afford it—to undergo doomed, single-embryo transfers, one by one.”
If you know ANYONE who has been through IVF, you know exactly how fucking cruel this is.
Romantasy isn't when there's sex scenes.
It's when you're teaching the prince to fake love for his best friend so his whole world doesn't collapse and desperately trying to ignore how he's staring at you.
Romantasy isn’t when there’s sex scenes.
It’s when you’re screaming at him how it can’t be you, how you’re fated to someone else, yet with every ounce of his being he knows you belong to each other.
Little does he know, all it takes is one touch…you simply can’t bear to do it.
@MeaganBurgad Hi Meagan, I'm considering querying you! Would you consider contemporary fantasy romance as a genre? Your QueryManager has "romance" and "fantasy" separate so I thought I'd check!
Out of 12 agents queried in the first batch in Nov, I have one form rejection, one "almost took this" rejection, and one partial request. Here's to 2024 being the year! #amquerying
I had no idea that prisons across the US ban thousands of books, and that fantasy and science fiction are common topics. People everywhere should be able to imagine new ways of being.

Returning to life after finishing a long piece of writing is akin to resurfacing after spending days underwater. The world looks strange and warped, and the sunlight feels overwhelming. It's a fantastical and bizarre but satisfying experience.

@judahmahay Story sounds awesome! Another comp outside the lit world would be Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood, check it out if you haven't! Good luck with querying!
@Kchollow_writes Boxing, of all things! Had never tried it but was looking for a way to get back in shape and it surprisingly cured my low back pain. Such a good flow exercise!
@KirchoffMelonie A scene in a closet or equivalently awkward space! Sometimes you just have to pull people out of the action for some close discussion, or "discussion" as the case may be.
