Caught the end of the @UConnWBB practice today. Really impressed by freshman guard Jovana Popovic, looked like the best player out there at times. Best play was a sweet dish from Olivia Vukosa from low blocks to a cutting Morgan Cheli
I’ve never understood the “guards die at SC” narrative. Name one institution outside of Notre Dame that has consistently pumped elite guards like that…
Ty Harris
Seven years, three teams, zero rings, and a highlight reel of injuries. She’s added “arguing with random Twitter accounts” to her skill set, which at least gives her something to do while she’s on the training table. The league’s longest-running guest appearance😬.
Zia Cooke
a top-three high school player, now a professional at collecting waiver notices. Drafted in 2023, already bounced across multiple teams, and still looking up at rookies who weren’t even top-20 high school prospects. The “I was a star in college” tour has entered its extended-run phase.
Destanni Henderson & Brea Beal
Error 404: Career not found. One got a couple of hardship cups of coffee and left for Europe; the other was drafted and waived so fast the ink on the contract was still wet. Participation trophies from the Final Four don’t transfer to the WNBA.
Te-Hina Paopao
A net-negative off the bench whose playing time is basically a rumor. Dawn Staley handed her a point-guard title and a national title, but forgot to equip her with the actual point-guard skills that survive outside the Gamecocks system. At 5’9” she’s not exactly compensating with size. The minutes reflect the production.
Bree Hall
Drafted in 2025, already cut twice, and now clinging to what looks like a friendship/development contract while logging minutes measured in single digits. Needs more development and is currently getting the “we like you but…” treatment.
Raven Johnson
Top-three recruit who finally got real minutes only because the players in front of her were either hurt or among the least productive options on the floor. Without those injuries she’d still be doing the best impression of furniture on the bench. The “I was a star in Columbia” résumé is not quite showing up in the pros.
Ta’Niya Latson
The nation’s leading scorer who led the ACC in points for three straight years, then transferred to South Carolina for the senior-year résumé boost. Fell out of the top 10, and Drafted 20th overall in 2026 by the Sparks, waived weeks later, and now collecting development-contract minutes with the Aces. Career so far, 3.1 points in 5.6 minutes a night.
South Carolina keeps shipping out decorated college stars. The league keeps returning them with “needs further development” stamped on the box.
Please rest 💯
Geno Auriemma said he is proud of alumna Gabby Williams, Kaitlyn Chen, Kiah Stokes and Tiffany Hayes for making the #WNBA Finals.
Asked who he was rooting for when the Dallas Wings played the #Valkyries: “I’m rooting for Golden State. 4 to 1.5.”
#UConn
Nykesha Sales is using her background at UConn to help Sarah Strong become a vocal leader.
“She’s a quiet person, I noticed. She likes to play, but now she’s already being a lot more vocal, which will help out a lot with her career moving forward.”
