@galexy_dev@EpicArtFail@IsThisA3DModel@mattbarton Nuance is always difficult to compress into a limited amount of characters. I know AI has advantages and disadvantages, and I know that energy consumption is more complicated than a simple maths problem.
@galexy_dev@EpicArtFail@IsThisA3DModel@mattbarton In the current ecopolitical climate I doubt AI will surpass humans in terms of value/$, but even then there's about a hundred different factors that play into such an analysis.
@galexy_dev@EpicArtFail@IsThisA3DModel@mattbarton You forgot to do the math for B which is ≈ 900 Wh, but regardless...
1. There's no guarantee any of those 300 gen images are any good at all so you'd waste even more on chasing rainbows essentially.
2. AC in offices is shared.
3. Thin clients can be as low as 40 W.
@galexy_dev@EpicArtFail@IsThisA3DModel@mattbarton You're speaking as if it's inevitable, which is a bold assumption, but requiring a disclosure for how much in the game is AI generated isn't a bad thing. I just bought a game where the only things AI generated was the localisations, which I'm personally fine with.
@galexy_dev@EpicArtFail@IsThisA3DModel@mattbarton Depends, what did the AI generate? If it's just code assistance I'd still say you made it, but if it's CA + asset generation then I'd say the AI model generated it.
@galexy_dev@EpicArtFail@IsThisA3DModel@mattbarton In an ideal world that would be good, but existing games that may be abandoned by their devs would never get labeled "handmade" or "no AI", which doesn't let you filter art from AI generative assets. Forcing the few devs who use gen AI for assets os the path of least resistance.
@galexy_dev@EpicArtFail@IsThisA3DModel@mattbarton I didn't say anything about the inverse of Steam's AI label. But yes, I do actually want to stigmatise giant corporations wasting electricity in order to do a quarter-baked "replacement" of actual art, whether that's images, videos, sound files, 3D models, or anything else.
@RinoTheBouncer Because on PC I can copy/paste whatever files I want, wherever I want, whenever I want, and nobody can stop me. I can burn my own blu-rays if I wanted to. I have no limits on PC.
@TheoTheFurry_@RizoaOfficial In a tiny form factor with as low a noise floor as the Steam Machine has, you kinda have to get at least semi-custom with most things. It's living room centric. It's what Valve is targeting. And nobody is forcing you to buy it.
@TheoTheFurry_@RizoaOfficial It's a living room centric device, it's not made to extract as much performance as possible from all the money you pour into it. Semi-custom hardware is expensive on its own, plus all the AI fuckery in the industry, and it's as cheap as it can reasonably get.
