All those aspiring students who want to choose Medical MSc must know a few important aspects before joining these courses in Anatomy, Medical Physiology, Medical Biochemistry,Medical Pharmacology & Medical Microbiology.

1. At present it's a very long path
You need to do your Masters and then PhD to become eligible to join in a Medical College.7-10 years.

2. Job opportunities are less and growth is also limited unless you move to abroad or crack the research industry .

3. You will always be considered as a second class citizen despite your best of abilities and rarely be appreciated for your contribution.

4. There is no guarantee of jobs as the regulations use simple three words " may be appointed". And there is a ceiling too.

5. There is no regulatory bodies to regulate the course.

6. There is no separate NET examination for entry to PhD. So getting JRF is a herculean task. Doing PhD in this field is very expensive and the courses are also very expensive nowadays.

7. Since we are minority in the Medical Education field, we need to face the ordeals placed upon us by the National Medical Commission. Your future will remain insecure on their whims and fancies.

8. Example: As of now you will not be considered as even UG examiner despite you will be teaching them.

9. Your life will be a lifelong battle of existence.

FAIMA has urged the NMC to exclude https://t.co/Uvfzb3IEhM–Ph.D faculty from PG guideship and examination roles for MD/MS students.

https://t.co/Uvfzb3IEhM–Ph.D faculty in Medical Anatomy, Biochemistry, Physiology, Pharmacology & Microbiology are recognized faculty of medical institutions under the 2025 Regulations. They have been teaching medical students, conducting research and contributing to postgraduate education for more than seven decades.

A teacher with an M. Sc Medical + Ph.D in a specialized medical discipline cannot be presumed academically inferior simply because they do not possess an MBBS.

Clinical competence and research competence are different things. A clinician should assess clinical skills and patient management. But when the question is research in basic medical sciences, why should the scientist who is specifically trained in that science be excluded?

Indeed, an https://t.co/Uvfzb3IEhM–Ph.D researcher may possess greater research expertise than an MD faculty member without doctoral research training.

The real criterion must be subject expertise, teaching experience, research competence and demonstrated academic ability-not professional identity.

NMMTA stands for merit over hierarchy, competence over credentialism, and collaboration over professional exclusion.

Different qualification does not mean inferior competence.

A clear proposal for academic #apartheid
As if @ICMRDELHI is run by some ignorant babus, who don't know the existence of Medical MSc PhD qualified teachers in medical education. Or they think we can't do the justice to the Medical education research. Now India is limiting the research opportunities also in the field of Medical Education.

I urge @MoHFW_INDIA to step in .
@ICMRDELHI is also requested to include all the classes of teachers for this joint initiative.

The conference will bring together academicians, clinical scientists, researchers, and students to discuss recent advances, emerging trends, and research in basic medical sciences.

The University Grants Commission's Public Notice dated 10 March 2017 leaves no room for ambiguity: both Full-Time and Part-Time Ph.D. programmes are recognized as "Regular Mode" Ph.D. degrees, provided they are awarded in accordance with the statutes and ordinances of the degree-awarding university. Only distance-mode Ph.D. degrees are excluded.

Despite this clear position, faculty members with Medical https://t.co/Uvfzb3IEhM.-Ph.D. qualifications continue to face denial of appointments, promotions, and recognition on the pretext that their Ph.D. was not pursued through a so-called "regular" programme. Such actions are contrary to the spirit of the UGC clarification and raise serious concerns regarding fairness and consistency in regulatory decision-making.

NMMTA strongly urges the NMC to cease this continuing harassment of Medical https://t.co/Uvfzb3IEhM.-Ph.D. faculty members and to review all decisions based on this flawed interpretation. It is becoming increasingly difficult to avoid the conclusion that such provisions have been inserted into regulations not to uphold academic standards, but to systematically exclude a class of qualified and experienced educators from eligibility for appointment and promotion.

Medical https://t.co/Uvfzb3IEhM.-Ph.D. faculty have served Indian medical education with distinction for decades. Their competence, experience, teaching record, research contributions, and service to institutions should be the basis of evaluation—not arbitrary reinterpretations of qualifications that are already recognized by the country's apex higher education regulator.

NMMTA will continue to oppose all discriminatory provisions and pursue every available legal and administrative remedy to ensure justice for affected faculty members.

NMC’s TEQ 2022 clause insisting that MSc–PhD faculty must hold a PhD “as regular on campus course” is jurisdictional overreach, legally untenable and academically irrational.

UGC already recognises full‑time and part‑time PhDs with identical academic rigour; distance mode is barred, but part‑time is fully valid. NMC has no statutory mandate to micro‑regulate how a PhD is obtained, only to specify what qualifications are required.

Applying this “regular on campus” condition to PhDs awarded years before 2022 amounts to retrospective penalisation and violates basic principles of natural justice. Careers are being derailed despite degrees earned fully within UGC norms.

Demanding a PhD only from non‑medical teachers in pre‑/para‑clinical disciplines, while MD faculty are not held to the same standard, chases not educational need but arithmetic parity in years of training. Credential parity is not educational equivalence.

NMMTA urges NMC to:
1️⃣ Delete “as regular on campus course” from TEQ 2022;
2️⃣ Add a saving clause to reverse adverse actions since 2022;
3️⃣ Respect UGC’s exclusive jurisdiction over PhD regulation.

NMMTA requests hon'ble @MoHFW_INDIA minister Sh. @JPNadda ji to intervene and direct @NMC_IND @NMC_BHARAT to amend this discriminative guidelines.

NMMTA strongly condemns the denial of Professor status to Dr. Sunil S. Shivekar, a Medical M.Sc-Ph.D. faculty member possessing the requisite experience, solely because his "Ph.D. was not obtained through a regular in-campus programme from a recognized medical institution".

This decision is arbitrary and legally unsustainable. To our knowledge, Dr. Shivekar earned his Ph.D. in 2015- years before the formation of NMC and the promulgation of its current regulations. Applying a subsequently introduced criterion retrospectively is both unjust and contrary to established principles of natural justice.

NMMTA had objected to these provisions when public feedback was sought to the draft regulations, and has repeatedly conveyed its concerns to the NMC and the Ministry of Health & Family Welfare (@MoHFW_INDIA). Having failed to secure a fair resolution, the Association has now approached the Hon'ble High Court seeking justice.

We urge the @NMC_IND @NMC_BHARAT to immediately withdraw its letter and accord due recognition to Dr. Shivekar as Professor. Merit, experience, and demonstrated competence-not retrospective technicalities- must guide academic recognition.

Also, the Association respectfully requests the Hon'ble Minister, Shri @JPNadda ji, to take necessary steps to curb the dangerous precedent of enforcing rules retrospectively. The unnecessary harassment meted out to the Medical M.Sc-PhD faculties are avoidable.
