1. India’s rich, incl corporates, are increasingly becoming rentiers than entrepreneurs
2. Both tax & corporate earnings data show the rise of rentier incomes rel to profits
3. Its perfectly legal but diverts “animal spirits” towards speculation from growth driving investment
ALERT | July 26, 2026, 0050 HRS | Bihar Student-Youth Movement.
In the aftermath of the mass arrests in Bihar on July 24, the following comrades remain incarcerated in Beur Jail:
Sandeep Saurav – CPI(ML) MLA (Paliganj)
Dhananjay – CPI(ML) leader and former JNUSU President
Divyam – CPI(ML) Bihar Media Cell member and AISA leader
Dipankar – AISA Bihar State Secretary
Saba Afreen – AISA Patna University President
In addition to the above, more than 50–60 comrades from the district and block-level units, along with several students and youth participants, are also currently incarcerated. We are in the process of gathering further information and will provide updates as more details become available.
On July 25, as part of the Jantar Mantar agreement, the Union government agreed to withdraw all cases against activists associated with this student-youth movement in BJP-NDA ruled states.Yet, many people associated with the movement continue to remain imprisoned in Bihar.
We demand the immediate and unconditional release of all those arrested and an end to the repression of the democratic student-youth movement.

Gas in the kitchen might emerge as a relatively smaller problem if the fuel supply shock continues. All problems would be bigger if India's power supply was also dependent on oil and gas, which isn't the case. With @Roshanjnu

📢 Call for Papers | Dimensions of Sustainability 🌍
I’m co-coordinating the panel “Dimensions of Sustainability” (with Andrew Mearman and Briti Kar) and we invite submissions engaging with heterodox, critical, and pluralist perspectives on climate change and sustainability.
We welcome theoretical, empirical, policy, and pedagogical work that examines power, inequality, class, and Global North–South dynamics, and that contributes to decolonising climate change research and practice.

We explore how India’s labour surveys often miss women's unpaid work, decision-making roles in small enterprises, and new forms of work like gig and home-based industries.
Prof @PikettyWIL's visit reignited debate on inequality in India. We examined the disparity in household asset distribution, along the axes of caste, class, and the rural-urban divide, using the AIDIS 2019 data.
