Shocked & overwhelmed that someone took the time to nominate me & I actually got shortlisted for University Educator of the Year. A lush email from the head of school, could actually cry. An award that everyone in our school deserves but very grateful #SNTAwards@NursingTimes
Honoured to receive this award @filipinonurseuk —a moment that brought memories of my humble beginnings as an @FNightingaleF INMA fellow. Since then, my journey has been nothing short of transformative, with my career reaching new heights.
A heartfelt thanks @ariel_lanada 🙏
Do you understand the true cost/impact of poor retention?
👉 You’ve lost excellent experience
👉 Lengthy recruitment process
👉 Lost all that commitment
👉 Pay extra to backfill the gap £££
👉 Months for someone new to learn
👉 Reduced productivity
👉 Circle repeated
Things aren’t alway as they seem
This is true for #patientsafety
At times perceptions, or the gap between the work as imagined (what senior colleagues believe) & work as done (reality felt by those on the ground) is so wide that it leaves space for system failures.

@techpriest The most frustrating part of my whole career having to move from trust to trust, having to do the exact mandatory training I've just done, complete all the same checks again, waste of resources, money and time no wonder the NHS is in dire straights.
@HoydenSpark I don't think training is enough, it's another tick box exercise that people use to pit against someone who complains about discrimination/race, words I've actually heard 'there is no discrimination we have the training cue eye rolls 🫣🫣
@minoritisedNHS I agree sometimes change is needed and those especially in management it can often be a let down because people get excited for change and when they return they realise that change is never going to happen as its always been done that way and now their part time it's impossible
@ProfDonnaHall I've seen it, they don't end up filling the other hours up, in management they can't put into the team what is needed and you see people keeping the same post for 20 odd years regardless if staff feel they are better for the position or not and it also means no change
Early intervention in the community – to help prevent hospital admissions of older people living with frailty – should be prioritised, but workforce retention and funding are barriers #BGSBlueprint https://t.co/MqPHCbJfzo
In a toxic culture the 1st few people in an organisation to speak up are ignored, bullied, ostracised, blamed, eventually pushed out. This is a warning to others to stay quiet. The culture is normalised. But sometimes it has affected so many people it creates an unstoppable force
@NationalQPS #JustCulture
Everywhere needs a “Just culture” where reporting is encouraged/supported, there is psychological safety, patient safety is prioritised & staff feel protected & are nurtured.
@ProfDonnaHall So true, the lack of integrity I have seen some people I thought I respected in senior positions is actually shocking, not being accountable for mistakes that all humans can make, not wanting to give credit where credit is due as they feel it will make them look bad
Wilful blindness - this is one of the biggest barriers to irradiating behaviours of racism, discrimination and inequality. It’s everyone’s responsibility to not turn a blind eye. #RCN23
In order to retain invested in talent we need to start the ‘we want to keep you’ conversations when the employee is still open to staying - not after they’ve already told you the are looking to leave. In order to retain we must build cultures worth staying for. #NHSRetention
We can implement all the performance improvement initiatives or new quality systems in the world. But if leaders don't light the way to change through their own everyday behaviours & practices, it isn't going to stick. This new blog sets out powerful research evidence from the evaluation of the NHS/ @VM_Institute partnership: https://t.co/KR3sMVOPWu Great job @DrNicolaBurgess@WarwickBSchool #LeadingQI #QITwitter
