The skill they don’t teach you.
Jean Paul Sartre once said, “We are our choices”.
The trajectory of our life is determined by the choices we make.
Albus Dumbledore says, “The trouble is humans do have a knack of precisely choosing those things that are worst for them. It is our choices that show what we truly are, far more than our abilities.”
We make choices without adequate thinking.
Big decisions like education, spouse, city, work, house, children, investments.
Smaller ones like sleep, food, thoughts, words, reading, exercise, how we allocate our time and what we avoid while blaming the lack of time.
Micro choices made everyday compound over time and eventually become our destiny.
The trouble is that no one teaches us the most critical skill of living- how to make choices?
Instant pleasure versus delayed gratification.
Pain of hours of practice today and every day to become a champion tomorrow.
We are free to choose alcohol, tobacco, drugs, gambling, junk food, social media, and gossip, but over time these choices have consequences.
Laziness and excuses are a choice. Discipline and rigour are choices too.
The Intellect is where we make these choices.
The five senses we have create emotions in us. Greed, envy, fear, gluttony, and schadenfreude arise here but so do hope, courage, resilience, discipline, and magnanimity.
Buddha said, “Look not in the action, but the intention behind the action.” When we make a choice, is it born out of greed, envy, fear, hurt, anger, revenge or out of a desire to build a virtuoso performance, product or company.
Since most of these choices are made almost subconsciously, it is important to pause and reflect about who is making these choices? Choices made out of emotions are impulsive and usually harmful in the long run. Choices made by a calm mind after weighing all options may be short term undesirable but long term right for us.
Motivation, direction and intensity of action come from the thoughts in our mind but we know so little about how the mind works that it appears our decisions are on auto mode with us only suffering the consequences. The condition of the mind determine the quality of our thinking.
The condition will depend on inputs to the mind: what we read, see and hear.
The mind is a recycler. If we have thrown garbage inside, it will dish out garbage. If we have great thoughts, good intentions, if we have kept our mind clean and neatly stacked, what will come out will be exceptional.
Life isn’t what happens to us, it’s what we tell ourselves is happening to us. Luck is not with us or have a victim mentality, whatever story we tell ourselves, we believe to be truth.
There are two kinds of people in this world: those that make bad choices and blame others or some poor planet about how their life turns out and those that have learnt to make good choices.
If there is one thing we teach our kids is to know we always have a choice and then make the better one.

The biggest mistakes happen when you rush what’s meant to take time.
Strong careers. Deep relationships. Good health.
They all need patience, not shortcuts.
There are no hacks.
The long road is the right one.

Anika fought very bravely for 12 days to come back to her two most loved things "her school and little brother".
Anika failed to be back for the things and people she loved, due to critical deep wounds, as it was 90% deep 3rd degree thermal burnt case. #justice4anika

Reflect before you React.Pause before you Punch.Deliberate before you Deliver. Advice I gave at our annual Leadership Conference years ago,out of concern that as managers,we were engaged in ‘busy’ness & not business. It’s advice I,myself find hard to follow-especially on Mondays
