FRANCIS SCOTT KEY BRIDGE: DID YOU KNOW?

1. The Francis Scott Key Bridge, a.k.a. the Key Bridge, was a continuous steel truss bridge that spans the Patapsco River, connecting the neighborhoods of Locust Point and Federal Hill in Baltimore, Maryland.

2. The bridge was named in honor of Francis Scott Key, the author of the United States national anthem, "The Star-Spangled Banner," who was born in the nearby neighborhood of Fells Point.

3. Construction of the Key Bridge began in 1972 and was completed in 1977. It was designed by the engineering firm J.E. Greiner Company.

4. The Key Bridge was 1,200 feet long and 100 feet wide, with a main span of 1,200 feet.

5. The bridge had two traffic lanes in each direction, as well as pedestrian sidewalks on both sides.

6. The Key Bridge was a vital transportation link in Baltimore, providing direct access to Interstate 95, which connects the city to Washington, D.C. and other major cities on the East Coast.

7. The Key Bridge is a popular spot for viewing the annual Baltimore Air Show, as it provides a prime vantage point for watching military aircraft perform aerial maneuvers over the Patapsco River.

8. The bridge was said to have undergone several renovations and repairs over the years to ensure its structural integrity and safety for motorists and pedestrians.

9. The Key Bridge was a notable landmark in Baltimore and is featured prominently in photographs and postcards of the city's skyline.

10. The bridge offered stunning views of Baltimore's Inner Harbor, Fort McHenry, and the historic neighborhoods of Federal Hill and Locust Point.
