India's movement away from caste is literally written into the Constitution. The only civilization-wide leap of practical ethics baked into politics, law, and evolving custom.

A cultural revolution (a successful one at that).

Because it is so difficult, I personally have worked on a more grounded 'intuition' approach to these two figures. This approach zooms in on the idea at the cost of the person, speaks to the future rather than past, goes to philsophy over mere history.

When the Savarkar-Ambedkar Circle was founded, it was an eccentric conversation to start. But 3 years later, its core thesis has been proven correct:

Republic's Gandhi-Nehru era is truly over. What comes now is based on different, radical intuitions: of Savarkar and Ambedkar.

Things about Savarkar that made him rare in his time and even today:

1. Exaltation of Hindutva from religion to all-of-civilization.
2. Radical almost caustic streak of realism.
3. Allergy to other-worldliness.
4. No diffidence to any past golden age. Glory projected to future.

I have a somewhat different reading of this episode in which Adi Shankara completely misses the point that Chandala made, and emerges an uncertain hero.

Might sound absurd so let me describe in some detail:

There's this idea (even Ambedkar notes this) that the Upanishads by propagating the ideals of aatman and brahman, already contained seeds of a deep spiritual egalitarian democracy within, but these seeds did not come to fruition.

This casteist reading framing SCs as passive sufferers could only come from an UC liberal.

SCs worked with the Hindu society, restored Hinduism to an egalitarian order, got these values enshrined in Indian constitution, made H nationalism socially progressive & they're passive?
