Mennonites arrested in Senate Building for singing hymns, calling for a ceasefire—keep singing as they’re loaded into paddy wagons:
“Everyone beneath their vine & fig tree shall live in peace and unafraid.
And into plowshares turn their swords, nations shall learn war no more.”
We sing hymns along our journey — as a way to lift our spirits, celebrate the acapella singing tradition that many of us grew up with, and express our faithful witness for peace.
Our songs and prayers are for peace and justice for all God’s children in Gaza.

We have more to give the world than missiles. We have more to offer our siblings in Gaza than endless cycles of violence, terror, and death. We know a different path is possible. We are calling on our lawmakers to join us.

A group of Mennonites visited Sen. Michael Bennet’s office in Grand Junction, CO today to call on the senator to support peace in Gaza. They delivered water, candles, and zwieback (a traditional Russian Mennonite bread) to symbolize the aid that Gazan families need to survive.
60 Mennonites and their allies are praying and singing outside of Philadelphia City Hall, asking their local officials to support a ceasefire. They are delivering @mccpeace school kits to city council members as a symbol of aid for Gaza.

After some tough negotiations, the Liberals and the NDP have reached a deal on pharmacare.
The bill will drop later this week, but a number of leaks (if correct) give us an idea of what to expect.
A 🧵 with 7 points on the principles and the scope of the new program.
“Les solutions existent pour peu que l’on reconnaisse que le droit à un logement salubre et sain n’est pas un luxe et que l’habitation n’est pas un secteur d’investissement que l’on pourrait laisser se réguler tout seul, au gré des lois du marché.” https://t.co/ynJAZi7OSM #polmtl
“There are 2 choices..continuing to create new medical care programs w/ a fill-in-the-gaps model & an income cap... [or] delivering on the promise of the Canada Health Act, which is based on health care for all & imposes no income threshold" @ccpa#canlab

This Christmas season, will we continue to stay silent on this unfolding tragedy? Or will we remember our Anabaptist forbearers who bravely spoke out against the ravages of war, even at the risk of imprisonment and death?

Today, Over 1,700 Mennonites and allies joined together in the largest coordinated Christian day of action for ceasefire since Oct. 7th.
From Mississippi to Winnipeg we sang, prayed and urged our elected officials to support a permanent ceasefire in Gaza.
