A moon pillar rising over a thin crescent moon just before it set. What's really interesting is that a couple of hours after the first shot, a moon pillar was still visible to the left of the @uw_icecube laboratory, though the moon had dropped below the horizon! 🌙

A timelapse of the Lunar eclipse at the #SouthPole. Exposures in this video ranged between 1/13-20s to cover the crazy dynamic range of the full moon and the dark night sky, smoothly ramped with @LRTimelapse to show how the stars and the Milky Way emerged further into the eclipse

Very rare to have sundogs at the #SouthPole so late in the season, when the sun is only 3.25 deg above the horizon. On the lower left the @ehtelescope mirrors are visible on the @SPTelescope, installed today, as we gear up to observe black holes soon! @BICEP_Keck on the right

This intensely hot period gave way to a cooler Universe where the first hydrogen atoms began to form.

@SPTelescope This was a Basler flight that stopped only to refuel, transiting to McMurdo Station from Rothera (basically coast-to-coast). No direct contact with the flight crew (they fueled themselves), nor pax or supplies in or out, but it was awesome to see nonetheless!

During the elevation gear greasing, winter over Josiah captured this cool picture of SPT! From shining a flashlight at the mirror, the reflective photogrammetry targets on the primary (used to measure the surface quality) light up pretty spectacularly! #southpole #astronomy
