SPARKLERS on champagne bottles sparked a DEADLY resort blaze at the #Le_Constellation bar at the Crans-Montana ski resort in Switzerland during New Year’s festivities.

The blaze left at least 47 dead and 115 severely injured — Swiss media reports

Survivor: “Those who were behind were trampling those who were falling... it was impossible to breathe because of the smoke.”

Witnesses and investigators believe the blaze was sparked at approximately 1:30 a.m. when a waitress, carried on a colleague’s shoulders during a champagne service, held a sparkler that ignited flammable soundproofing foam and wood panels on the ceiling. The fire spread with catastrophic speed, leading to a “flashover” that caused the entire enclosed basement bar to ignite almost instantly.

The tragedy was compounded by a narrow, single staircase that served as the only exit for the more than 100 revellers—mostly teenagers and young adults—trapped inside. More than 115 survivors are currently being treated at specialist burns units across Switzerland, France, and Italy, many in critical condition.

Swiss President Guy Parmelin described the event as one of the nation’s worst tragedies
