I understand the frustration many Venezuelans feel over the way this tragedy has been handled. That frustration is legitimate. The way the Venezuelan state has acted at a moment like this is intolerable.

I also understand that there is frustration toward the U.S. government. But at this point, we need to maintain a strategic and long-term vision. The United States is our main partner for Venezuela’s reconstruction and for a real democratic transition.

That is why we must work every day to ensure that the United States and other key allies remain committed to that process.

We must show that Venezuela has people and teams capable of working with the U.S. on the basis of common objectives, clear commitments, and a real capacity to execute.

Otherwise, it will not be possible to rebuild our political and economic institutions.
