Human rights lawyers say Sudanese activists in the UAE are being arrested without charge and held in conditions amounting to enforced disappearance. A lawyer following the cases told Ayin that names cannot be disclosed due to security risks.
The arrests reportedly follow phone surveillance and monitoring of social-media posts. Among those detained is Nader Meryoud, spokesperson for the Al-Salha Resistance Committees, held on 16 November shortly after the group criticised the UAE’s alleged support for the RSF.
Prominent politician Mohamed Farouk Suleiman has also been detained since January 2025 with no explanation from the authorities.
Activists say Sudan’s interim government in Port Sudan has failed to demand answers from Abu Dhabi, leaving detainees at risk of prolonged detention or forced return to Sudan, where they may face further reprisals.

🚨Update from North Darfur
October 26,2025,
A complete collapse of human rights has been reported in North Darfur State, particularly around El Fasher. As of this morning, the Rapid Support Forces #RSF reportedly took full control of the Headquarters of six Sudanese Armed Forces #SAF divisions in the region. This escalation has led to the siege and capture of over 1,000 civilians, including elderly men and women. Additionally, more than 900 civilians are currently detained by RSF along the El Fasher–Tawila road.
The humanitarian situation is deteriorating rapidly, with immediate risks of mass violations similar to those witnessed previously in El Geneina, West Darfur.
Since the onset of the conflict between SAF and RSF, North Darfur has remained one of the most contested regions. El Fasher, being a strategic urban center, has faced continuous hostilities, leading to mass displacement, civilian casualties, and destruction of critical infrastructure.
The RSF’s recent operations in El Fasher mark a significant shift in control dynamics in Darfur, intensifying fears of targeted attacks and reprisals against civilians.
Eyewitnesses and local observers describe a systematic targeting of civilians, arbitrary detentions, and potential acts amounting to war crimes. The RSF’s control of key routes poses grave risks for those fleeing the conflict zones.
DNHR call upon:
The international community and regional bodies must intervene diplomatically to prevent a repeat of the El Geneina massacre.
Documentation and investigation of violations for potential prosecution under international humanitarian law.

Sudan ‘horror knows no bounds’, says UN, as 540 civilian deaths are counted in just north Darfur in last 3 weeks. More to come under RSF-controlled areas. https://t.co/K5pBX5XtI7

An excellent look at the history and evolution of mutual aid groups in #Sudan. They represent the true, indomitable spirit of the Sudanese people. Many would like to see them take up a more political agenda going forward. https://t.co/0w60kmpGVg
A must read on how Sudan’s youth led groups evolved from calling for social & political change to being the heart of grassroots, frontline humanitarian aid for civilians.
