Top 10 reasons I reasonably expected Marriott International to take responsibility for what happened to my wife Sarah and me at the Ritz-Carlton, Doha.
Tell me where I’m wrong and I’ll change my mind.
1.We booked it on https://t.co/arBsRRIXuV using a corporate code negotiated with Marriott International
2.I held Marriott Bonvoy Ambassador Elite — Marriott’s highest loyalty tier
3.I paid with my Marriott Bonvoy American Express card and received Marriott Bonvoy points for the stay and the card spend
4.The sign above the door said Ritz-Carlton — a Marriott brand wholly owned by Marriott International
5.The Ritz-Carlton, Doha is a Marriott-managed property, operating under Marriott’s brand standards and operating policies.
https://t.co/rAlD35g2zE TripAdvisor review was automatically picked up by Marriott International’s central “guestVoice” system, which alerted the property and required a response within 72 hours.
https://t.co/CNKohlsTbM Bonvoy holds — and the Ritz-Carlton, Doha had — every contact detail needed to notify me of the criminal proceedings filed against me. I was never notified.
https://t.co/bQoBc4rZCB formal complaint letters about how the harassment was handled were sent directly to Anthony Capuano (Marriott’s CEO) and the senior Marriott corporate group from September 2024 onwards. Mr Capuano’s office acknowledged the first letter and nominated a Marriott Area Managing Director to respond.
https://t.co/OBy0LBV2vh Bonvoy Customer Care confirmed in writing they had “forwarded the details to our specialty team.”
10. The Ritz-Carlton, Doha’s filing in the Qatar criminal proceedings expressly identified the property as part of “the American company Marriott International” — Marriott’s corporate identity was placed on the court record by the property itself
Despite all of the above, Marriott’s position has been that this is a matter for the Qatari authorities.
Walks like a duck, quacks like a duck…. This feels like a Marriott International matter to me 🦆
The dark side of Doha: Sarah was sexually harassed and threatened by Qatari men at a luxury hotel. Her husband defended her... and was thrown into a prison cell in the desert. Read their horrifying warning https://t.co/pl3QWO4dpQ
@VyktorEm They haven’t responded to us personally about this, honestly, I wouldn’t hold your breath!

This story continues to infuriate me.
A local man told Sarah Barratt, poolside at the Ritz-Carlton in Qatar, that he was coming to her room to sleep with her.
Her husband Craig complained to hotel management. They reviewed the CCTV but said there was no evidence any men had even approached her. Three days later, the couple ran into the man in the lobby — apparently having faced zero consequences for his actions.
Craig then posted a TripAdvisor review calling the hotel "not safe for western women." It was taken down after three days.
He was prosecuted in absentia under Qatar's repressive "cybercrime" laws without his knowledge and convicted of defamation, which he only learned about months later, when stopped at passport control.
Craig was jailed, deported, and lost his Qatar-based consulting career. He and Sarah have sold their car, are auctioning off possessions, and are three months from losing their home.
They want to sue Marriott, but don't have the funds to do so. I hope they do. Marriott should be held accountable.
@tedcruz@Xking332 We recently shared our experience at a Marriott hotel in Qatar, I just came across some of your posts and thought you may be interested.
@IamGogoGirl@sappholives83@MarriottIntl I am so incredibly sorry to read your story, organisations must be held accountable for how they respond to harassment claims!
A draconian local law was used against Craig Barratt following a dispute with managers of a Doha hotel – now he’s counting the cost

Although I’m disappointed with Marriott’s comment to The Times newspaper, I’m grateful they’ve finally acknowledged us publicly. Despite all of the evidence presented by their employees, they are still trying to gaslight me and diminish my experience. It comes to something when @grok can review evidence and substantiate claims and human beings in large corporations can not. Thank you @barrattino for believing me ❤️.

Today’s Times newspaper.
Whatever else happens, my wife Sarah and I are grateful that what happened is being taken seriously.
If you think Marriott’s response — that the claims were “not substantiated by the available evidence” — is acceptable and justified getting me disappeared and locked-up, that is your call. If not, please share.
I know we’ve had some backlash over our story which includes multiple messages to @grok but I’m incredibly grateful that the truth is prevailing @barrattino
@ALMORAKEB26@sassinacity@MiddleEast_24 Thanks for the apology. The couple's account, backed by The Telegraph, their public statement, and hotel WhatsApp messages, stands without contradiction—no reports dispute the harassment itself, only the review led to the conviction.
Nobody claimed that I was raped, not the original article or what has been provided here. The evidence (which the majority of which was provided by the Marriott employee at The Ritz Carlton) proves that we are not telling lies. Happy to provide you with a link to read the original article in full if you’d like further information.
@DhbhJabr60198@MiddleEast_24 Our story and evidence was verified by the legal team at The Telegraph. I did not claim that I was raped but I would encourage you to read the original article in full.
@me00213318@MiddleEast_24 Please head to the original article, I did not claim that I was raped. I can confirm it did happen and the evidence we have was verified by the legal team at The Telegraph. Marriott provided most of the evidence that proves their story false.
