Because I didn’t operate from a place of desperation as Nigerian child/teenager and i simultaneously happened to be a very lucky child, so many times I was surrounded by people who didn’t know what to do with me,
People start off with a desire to get access so they can get some motion out of proximity to me, then they’d get resentful because i didn’t go out of my way to climb up the social ladder or make the kind of moves they’d be making “if they were in my shoes”.
Meanwhile, i don’t lack ambition, I’m just not willing to compromise my sovereignty for anything and if means waiting for years for things people get in months so be it, Because when I wait for years, I get everything you kissed ass for in one day, lmao.
Then the cycle repeats itself.

The whimsy is a decoy. The most intelligent, militant minded, LETHALLY gifted people I know are VERY playful bc they have a side that is EXTREMELY venomous and even THEY are afraid of what happens when the scales tip just a LITTTTTTTLE too much. Nigerian restaurant in the US. Fine-dining prices, but with mama-put quality! Exactly why our food struggled to scale, even though everyone is talking about our Jollof.

You can get a full meal + drink at a Chinese restaurant for <$15. Same at Nandos, which has 46 locations across the US. Last year, Nandos grossed ~$35m.

A full meal at a Nigerian restaurant is > $40. It becomes a luxury even for people of Nigerian descent. Ain't no regular person doing this 5 times a week.

The Chinese restaurant market is expected to gross $28.7bn in 2026. These are just numbers; I have no skin in this game. I am just a regular customer.
