Anthropic’s complaint has all the hallmarks of an incumbent technological leader unsettled by the prospect of capable rivals and eager to enlist political power to preserve a market advantage.

Technological diffusion is not a Chinese invention. It is how economic history works. Europe borrowed silk, porcelain, papermaking, and countless other technologies from China. The United States built much of its early industrial strength by appropriating British manufacturing know-how. Every great technological power has learned from its rivals.

Yet when Chinese firms become capable competitors, we are suddenly told that the normal circulation of knowledge is an existential threat.

If Anthropic’s capabilities can genuinely be replicated through question-and-answer interactions, that is less an indictment of Chinese ingenuity than a confession about the fragility of Anthropic’s own competitive moat. A company confident in its technological lead does not rush to Washington every time a rival catches up.

Beneath the rhetoric of “AI theft” lies a simpler anxiety: Chinese AI firms are improving rapidly, and American firms fear losing market dominance. The real issue is not espionage but competition.

History offers a clear lesson. Technological leadership is never preserved by complaining that others are learning. It is preserved by innovating faster than they do. Anthropic appears increasingly interested in the former because it is less certain of the latter.

Crazy that this is getting barely any coverage. This year’s European Press Prize was just awarded to an investigative report by the Dutch newspaper De Volkskrant. It is entitled “What the Wounds Tell” and in it the journalists Maud Effting and Willem Feenstra document the cases of 114 children in Gaza under the age of 15 who were struck by a single bullet to the head or chest. Almost all of them died or were left severely disabled. They chose to document only the cases of boys and girls under the age of 15 (though often much younger: aged 3, 4 or 7) because these are children who can be immediately identified as such. “A single bullet in these parts of the body is a clear indication that these children were deliberately targeted“, the two journalists write.

I want non-Jews to understand how monumental this shift as.

As Jews we are raised with endless propaganda about how great Israel is. It’s part of our prayers, our family gatherings, our education, our extra curricular activities, even our fraternities.

It’s everywhere, and there’s never another side presented. I practically never even heard the word Palestinian growing up. There was no asterisk next to how great Israel was. No war crimes to atone for. No ethnic cleansing, no open air prison, no list of massacres - just endless propaganda. And free paid trips to Israel from billionaires to try to convince us to move there.

And that’s not to even mention the generic American propaganda we all face daily.

So it’s absolutely staggering, that in the face of that endless, relentless propaganda, 44% of young American Jews favor the establishment of one non-religious state in Israel/occupied Palestine.

Many of us are pissed that we’ve been lied to. We’ve done the research and learned the history about how truly Hitlerian Israel’s history is.

This isn’t something that just happens by accident. You don’t have such large percentages of people mistakenly turning against their families, cultures, and traditions due to misinformation or misunderstandings. This kind of shift can only happen when people are exposed to the absolute worst horrors on the planet that their people have committed.

The human psyche can justify or use cognitive dissonance for almost anything.

But the evils from Israel have gone too far for far too long.

Nobody with a conscience who is educated about what Israel has done for the past hundred years can come to a conclusion other than, “Israel in its current form should simply not exist.”

Israeli soldiers have gone on Israeli television and said they use dogs to r•pe prisoners.

Israeli settlers raided a military base in July 2024 and rioted for the “right to r•pe” after reservists were arrested for r•ping a male prisoner to death with a steel bar.

After the right to r•pe riots a member of the Israeli Knesset proclaimed that Israeli
soldiers had the right to do whatever they wanted to to Palestinian prisoners, including r•pe.

Quite literally no group of people have provided more evidence of the widespread, systematic sexual abuse of Palestinian prisoners at the hands of the IDF than Israelis themselves.
