11 TYPES OF PRESSURE PASTORS FACE IN MINISTRY AND HOW TO HANDLE THEM

The following are the pressures pastors face in ministry:

1. THE PRESSURE TO PERFORM A MIRACLE. Jn 6:30; Jn 4:48
Human beings want miracles but no minister should be under pressure to perform a miracle. This very pressure has become the undoing of many.
Any minister that is under the pressure to perform miracles will stage miracles in the long run or end up occultic.

2. THE PRESSURE TO PROPHESY.
Mt 26:28; Lk 26:64
Even at the point of death, the people that were beating Jesus while crucifying him, asked him to prophesy to them.
The Prophetic is powerful.
However, don't force yourself to prophesy.

If you are under the pressure to prophesy, you will 'prophelie'.
If you are the the pressure to give word of knowledge, you will give 'word from knowledge'.

3. THE PRESSURE TO BUILD A BIG AUDITORIUM.
2 Kings 6:1
Many pastors are neck deep in debt due to the loans they took to build gigantic and humongous auditoriums or auditoria as the case may be.

4. THE PRESSURE TO LIVE IN A PALATIAL MANSION.
Jn 1:38
A lot of people want to judge a pastor by the kind of house he lives in and this has put so many pastors under pressure.

5. THE PRESSURE TO BE A PHILANTHROPIST.
Jn 6:1-27
Jesus Christ fed the multitudes twice, and the people wanted it to become a routine.
Don't go about impressing people and end up distressing yourself.

6. THE PRESSURE TO TEACH AND PREACH ONLY WHAT THE PEOPLE LIKE AT ALL TIMES.
Jn 6:60
After Jesus preached a hard message, the multitudes left.
It is almost as though a pastor is at the mercy of his members and at such is very careful not to preach or teach what may offend the people and this is why messages on discipleship and sacrifice are fast disappearing and losing appeal.

7. THE PRESSURE TO BELONG TO CERTAIN MINISTERIAL GROUPS IN ORDER TO GAIN ACCEPTANCE IN MINISTRY.
Mk 9:38; Lk 9:49
The disciples of Jesus attacked some people that were preaching and doing miracles but were not part of the ministry of Jesus but He rebuked them for that.
Today, it is almost as though if you don't belong to some associations, organizations or networks, you are not accepted or endorsed in ministry.

8. THE PRESSURE TO SUBMIT TO A CERTAIN SPIRITUAL FATHER IN ORDER TO GAIN ACCEPTANCE IN MINISTRY.
1 Sam 10:10-12
After Saul met with the company of prophets and began to prophesy, some people mocked them by asking 'Who is their father'?
This implies that those prophets were not part of Prophet Samuel's sons of the prophet. Their spiritual father must have been an unknown, unheard, unsung and uncelebrated figure.
Today, it's as though if one is not submitted to some people, the person is not called or genuine.

9. THE PRESSURE TO HAVE MONEY AND OTHER MATERIAL THINGS IN ORDER TO APPEAR SUCCESSFUL AND GAIN ACCEPTANCE IN MINISTRY.
Judg 17:7-13
The world is so vain today that people rate a minister by what he has.
It is an unwritten rule today in ministry that if you don't have cars and cash, you will be dishonoured, disregarded and disrespected.

10. THE PRESSURE TO DO WHAT OTHERS ARE DOING IN MINISTRY, ESPECIALLY IN ORDER TO APPEAR SUCCESSFUL.
2 Sam 18:19-32
Ahimaaz did not have tidings but he decided that if Cushi can bear tidings, he can bear tidings also.
A lot of people are under pressure to do what God did not commission them to do because others are doing those things.

11. THE PRESSURE TO GATHER CROWD.
Acts 5:36-37
Church growth is God's will but gathering crowd by all means is a pressure.
Theudas and Judas of Galilee were destroyed by this pressure.

HOW TO HANDLE THE PRESSURES
- Stick to your calling and vision.
- Stop seeking validation from human beings about your God given ministry.
- Cultivate contentment as a lifestyle because godliness with contentment is great gain.
- Choose your association wisely. Most pressures come from association.
- Marry a good spouse and let your spouse be your support system.
- Build capacity and grow daily.

One of the greatest privileges God gives us is the gift of parenting. To be entrusted with a child’s life is a divine assignment. Parents are meant to be a child’s first friend, coach, and safe place. Sadly, many children grow up seeing their parents not as allies but as enemies.

This doesn’t happen overnight, it is often the result of repeated habits and attitudes that wound the child’s heart. Below are 12 dangerous parenting habits that can turn you into your child’s first enemy. My prayer is that every parent reading this will be wise enough to avoid them.

1. Constant Criticism Without Encouragement
Children long to hear words of affirmation from their parents. When all they hear are harsh criticisms “you are lazy,” “you are good for nothing,” “you never do anything right” their hearts begin to shut down.
A child who is always criticized will stop trying to please you, because they feel they can never be good enough. Encourage more than you correct. When correction is needed, do it with love and gentleness.

2. Comparing Them With Other Children
Nothing crushes a child’s spirit like being compared with a sibling, cousin, or neighbor’s child. “Can’t you see how well Tunde behaves? Why can’t you be like him?” These words plant seeds of bitterness and resentment.
Every child is unique. Comparing them only makes them feel rejected. Celebrate your child’s uniqueness.

3. Shouting and Harsh Words
Some parents believe shouting makes children obey. In reality, it only creates fear and distance. Harsh words spoken in anger can linger in a child’s heart for years.
Picture a little girl running to her mother with excitement only to hear: “Can’t you see I’m busy? Leave me alone!” Such a child feels unwanted. Gentle speech and patient correction build stronger bonds.

4. Neglecting Their Emotional Needs
Children don’t just need food, clothing, and school fees. They also need affection, attention, and affirmation.
Some fathers think as long as they provide money, they have done their job. But a child who has everything yet feels unloved will grow up empty. Hold your children, play with them, look into their eyes and say: “I love you.”

5. Failure to Listen
A child who feels unheard begins to withdraw. When children come to share their fears, ideas, or mistakes, and you always shut them down—“Go away, I don’t have time for your stories”—you are teaching them that their voice doesn’t matter.

6. Over-Disciplining Without Relationship
Discipline is necessary, but when it is too harsh, inconsistent, or done in anger, it feels like punishment rather than training.

7. Overprotection and Control
Some parents mistake control for love. They dictate every move, suffocate their child’s choices, and never allow independence.
Such children often rebel once they find freedom.

8. Broken Promises
A child remembers promises. “Daddy, you said you would come to my school play.” “Mummy, you promised me a new bag.” When parents consistently break promises, they break trust.

9. Favoritism Among Siblings
Treating one child as the “golden child” while neglecting others breeds hatred both for the parents and among siblings

10. Failure to Model What You Preach
Children learn more from what we do than from what we say. A father who tells his son not to lie but lies on phone calls is teaching dishonesty.

11. Ignoring Their Dreams and Passions
Some children love drawing, singing, or sports, but parents insist: “You must become a doctor or engineer.” By ignoring their gifts, you tell them their desires don’t matter.

12. Lack of Affection Between Parents
One of the greatest gifts you can give your child is a loving marriage. When children constantly see fighting, insults, or coldness between mum and dad, they feel unsafe.
