I think about this video all the time
We have a pretty strict "no phones during family time" policy, but we still slip up plenty
You may think your kids don't pick up on it, but they do.
Look at the kid's face in this video. In the first scene. He sees exactly what's going on.
One strategy we use to avoid this:
We have a phone drawer, where we shove our phones and put them out of sight, out of mind. We use it during meals, bedtime/morning routines, etc
Despite that, I still occasionally catch myself breaking my own rules and sitting on my phone around my kids, scrolling mindlessly (or composing fire social media posts, of course)
And regardless of what I'm using my phone for at the time, the message to my kids is always the same:
"This light up rectangle pocket computer is more important than you."
And that's not a message any kid deserves to get from their parents
