Students at TISS and NALSAR have, for the first time in history, openly said they do not want a sitting Chief Justice of India as their convocation guest.
The trigger is CJI Surya Kant’s recent remarks dismissing videos of alleged police excesses against young protesters and earlier comments that referred to youth in highly contemptuous terms.
That a sitting head of the judiciary can speak this way about the country’s young people and still be routinely invited as the ceremonial face of legal education is being called a serious indictment of the institution.
