In Germany, a 29-year-old Afghan stabbed a 27-year-old woman walking home from work in daylight. He was given a reduced sentence because he only stabbed her 6 times.

The key reason for this reduction was the legal concept of voluntary withdrawal (freiwilliger Rücktritt vom versuchten Mord), which applies when a perpetrator abandons a criminal act that could lead to death and takes steps to prevent the outcome. The judges ruled that by stopping after the sixth stab—prompted by the victim's scream—and fleeing, the attacker had genuinely withdrawn from completing a murder attempt, as he could have continued but chose not to.

This is one of the UFO clips that has stayed near the top of my personal list for years.

In 1998, around 9:30 p.m., Alan Bruno de Oliveira, only 10 years old, recorded a small, bright spherical light maneuvering near his home in Capão Redondo, a district in São Paulo. His family reportedly observed the phenomenon as well, describing a silent ball of light that moved along the avenue, dipped near rooftops, and shifted course with a controlled, deliberate quality that drew their attention.

Accounts of the object’s motion are what make this case so compelling. The light was said to rise, complete a smooth loop, then transition into angled descents and lateral adjustments that looked purposeful rather than accidental. The footage itself is brief and imperfect, with zoom and autofocus limitations muddying parts of the capture, but the reported trajectory and steadiness of the glow remain central to why this incident still holds weight for many researchers.

For me, the Capão Redondo recording stands out not because it is pristine, but because it feels intimate and oddly probe-like. A small presence, close to the ground, behaving as if it were surveying the neighborhood.

This sighting also took place in the same year my own life was permanently and radically changed forever by the black triangle I witnessed that spring.
